Stag do "what car" - not the usual challenge
Discussion
My stag do will be a tour of the WW1 battlefields in Belgium and France - we're taking six cars and I was going to take my Jag XKR until an 'interface with the scenery' moment increased the rarity of the remaining cars.
Now I need another car to make the trip. It must be reasonably quick, quite silly, have at least two seats and available for £2k in the next six weeks. Silliness takes precedence over 'reasonably quick' though, open-top motoring would be nice. It must must MUST be able to do 1000 miles without breaking down, but that doesn't rule out much. I'd probably run it through the summer if it was properly fun too.
Classics are an option - my backup alternative is my soft-top LandRover. I don't particularly like German cars, and I'm not a big fan of Jap dashboards but I could suffer it for a weekend. I'd be happy to rent a car rather than buy if it was sufficiently silly/grinworthy though.
What haven't I thought of?

Hey Turbo. From LRE/LR4x4?
(Cartman on there....)
I was just about to say a soft-top LR (pref Series 2 vintage) before I read quick and not breakdown for 1k miles LOL. Though I doubt you could find one of that vintage in good con for that amount of cash. Your later model would be ideal with that tweaked turbo.

Nothing that grabs my attention so far (though the Caddy is LHD which would add a token practicality to its silliness
) so my ragtop Ninety is still a strong choice. What MX5s can I buy for £2k? The Jag was nice too, maybe an XJR would fall into double-shed budget.
Hi Paul - you can't go anywhere without other Landy drivers waving to each other...

Cant believe MX5 hasnt been mentioned.
can there be a topic when some one dosent talk about a f
king mx5He wants a fun, plentifully available convertible car for £2k that can do 1000 miles without breaking down - it's an obvious choice I'm afraid!
You can thank me later, but you can't beat a JAAAG XJS V12 Convertible for less than 2 sheds (don't quote me on the reliability though

My other left fieldchoice, how about a 1990 Mazda RX7 Turbo2 convertible

That Caddy does look entertaining actually. Would I want it on my drive afterwards though? It wouldn't be easy to flog on.
the caddys only like 1200 you could have a great laugh in it and you might want to drive it after as it is a real eye turner and floging is easy if you find the right person also it make the 1000 miles as it is american and thats just a trip to the shops for them... :PGassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
