Nissan 370Z GT Special Edition Revealed

A 370Z GT Edition has been unveiled by Nissan, featuring tweaked suspension, body stripes and anthracite-coloured RAYS alloys.

The new limited edition (we're not sure how limited) has been developed 'to celebrate global success in GT racing and 40 years of Z in the UK', the company says.

The side stripes are described as 'a nod to the 1970s', but we'd be more interested in the suspension changes - the dampers have been retuned 'to improve the balance between ride comfort and high speed handling'. As the car also features improved underbody insulation to reduce road noise, we can only hope the 'Z' isn't going soft again. (Although being a bit of an old fart I did once suggest the current model's road noise could be tiresome. And, on second thoughts, does anyone else think the old 280 ZX Targa might be slipping quietly back into the realms of the quasi-desirable..?)

Back to the news at hand, and the 370Z GT Edition comes in three colours - Pearl White, Kuro Black, and Black Rose - all with 'GT stripes' in grey.

Equipment upgrades include reversing camera and tyre pressure monitors, the seven speed auto now has 'snow mode', and the price is £35k. Which all sounds not too bad.

Strangely I was looking at 280s only last night and making a vague guesstimate on how much it would cost to dump a V8 in one for a bit of fun

Why bother with a V8? Nissan do some good straight-6s and v6s that you can get as much power out of as you want.

I'm sure I've seen the regular ones for £6k off list so unless similar savings are on this 'special' then they're going to have difficulty shifting them. Love the car. Still not too sure about the 'bottom teeth' in the grill though. They also seem slower than they actualy are. An excuse I'm sure the polis won't buy

Could never see myself spending £35k on a nissan 370z though to be honest.

I'd be surprised if they werent struggling.

I expect that the price of fuel is killing this market atm and they just dont make any sense.

I see more GTRs around Edinburgh than 370Z's

I really like the 370Z but the price has always seemed a bit steep to me. With insurance, tax and petrol prices its difficult to justify a Nissan versus a 'fancier' brand product. The comments above are pretty much correct, the cost has pretty much killed the market for this sort of car - the kind of performance car someone with a 'normal' income might aspire to afford. If you've got plenty of cash and fancy a Nissan, you'd go for the GTR, but if you're on a budget these are just not a viable option any more.

I seem to remember seeing loads of 350z's around when that was new, the 370 seems far rarer.

370z is quite a rare sight.. I'd love one myself but not at the asking price- i'd buy a Cayman instead (Yes I know the cayman is more expensive, but its ball park similar)

I'd pick up a 370z when they're around ~4years old for not too much cash- then it becomes an interesting proposition- get some weight out, better seats and a few other choice upgrades...

Petrol was 80p /litre then.

I guess they are £20K (transaction price) now with less than 10,000 miles. Sounds good value actually, if you don't do too many miles.

I'd say it was the new VEL rates that are killing cars like these. They are not particularly aspirational and anyone wanting a Nissan would probably look at a used GTR and if you're going to get bummed by a huge VEL rate, may as well get a posh car I suppose.
