No, did my question come across wrong? I mean has anyone got one in Sheff- I'll evidently drive up to that person. I wasn't actually expecting someone to come to me??!

Yeah, I was being a bit facetious, I just think it's a funny request. I'll give 5 pounds to charity if you get one before 9! smile

Ok. I was just checking as it seems a hell of a current for an average everyday fuse. Can't help multimeter wise I'm afraid, but I'm sure someone else can.

I paid less than a fiver for my multimeter, a few years ago now though.

Might explain the mocking replies OP - they aren't the expensive bit of kit you might think. You weren't to know that though. So much for the internet being a source of information...

From what I understand my wiring loom has gone faulty and with the fuseable link inside it (surge protector, circuit breaker) all VW's with Gas Intensity Discharge Headlamps have this wiring loom fitted, as the power generated from the ignitor's on the headlamps, for example, far exceeds the operating voltage, so the therefore the circuits and battery needs to be protected, hence the reason for this particluar wiring loom.
The huge fuse is part of all this.

Why ? Bulb does not light up = fuse blown.

Cheers for that. According to Maplins the 5.99 one is a domestic one which doesn't look like it would help me a great deal.
Would this do the job? http://www.maplin.co.uk/general-purpose-analoguemu...

connect one terminal of the bulb to one terminal of the battery, the other terminal of the bulb to one terminal of the fuse, the other terminal of the fuse to the other terminal of the battery. if the bulb is the same voltage as the battery (doesn't go pop) if it lights up you have a good fuse. if it doesn't you fuse is busted or you didn't make a connection.

use a side light bulb not a headlight as they wont get so hot, definitely not a HID. be careful with the wires and battery as a car battery can deliver quite a current and you may turn the wire into a bulb/fuse if you short it, which wont be good if you are holding it.
