I was in queue of traffic on a fairly steep hill (about 1 in 6 or 8) leading up to some traffic lights. Busy, going to have to wait 3 or 4 changes to get out.

Car in front didn't believe in hand brakes, just sat rocking back and forward, holding the car on the clutch. After a couple of light cycles I can smell the faint aroma of burning clutch, but still no handbrake. The burning smell is getting stronger, and we come to the green. Lots of revs, no forward motion, more, lots more revs and some smoke.

The lights go red, the driver hops out, looks around, gets back in and tries again, more revs, more smoke, just rolling back.

Do some people have no idea of how to drive?

59 reg fiesta, so hardly clapped out... until now.

Chances are that they'll run screaming into the nearest Ford garage demanding it be fixed immediately and free of charge.

Wait for the thread 'My Fiesta clutch has failed after only 5,000 miles and Ford won't pay'

We had a customer do a Mondeo clutch/flywheel to destruction in less than 20ft up a driveway!

Hahaha OP, that story is classic, we pistonheaders call such clutch rocking people "10 feet gap-ers"
