Am I old enough to drive a jag?
Discussion
Morning all! I just thought I'd stick my head in and ask PH for a reality check. Firstly at 34 am i too young to drive a jag?
I've had some pretty in heavy metal in my car ownership timeline, but now my needs are different. I currently drive a rr vogue, and I love it. It also doesn't depreciate that badly, and puts up with abuse from the family without batting an eyelid.
But, with the rising cost of diesel the economy is pretty poor. I'm obviously not looking for a hybrid, but the jaguar xf 3.0 looks lovely, and on paper is 60% better than my vogue.
The bits that are making think are:
1. Are jags still perceived as "old man"?
2. Do they still depreciate like a smoking spitfire falling from the sky?
3. Anyone driven one? What are they like?
4. What alternatives are there for <50k, that comfy, classy, quick, fairly economical?

I can't comment on reliability, but when it comes to perception and age, why should you care what others think? If you like the car, and can afford to run it, just do it.
Not that it matters, but an ex-colleague drove a Jag at 31. I'm sure there are others who've been in their 20s.
Do what's right for you, not for anybody else.

So I can only drive it for 3 years;)?
Seriously though, the main problem is I do love my vogue, but I do about. 25k a year and on the motorway the other day diesel was 1.57, and at 20 mpg (on a good day) I started questioning my sanity.
The vogue fits my life perfectly, and is amazingly capable in our harsh winters, but when the mrs made me watch the royal wedding I only noticed 3 things;
1. Pippa
2. Lancaster bomber
3. A couple of stunningly classy looking jag xj's. (edited to correct model)

Wouldn`t have thought the xf is an `old man`s` car, unless you go for one of the brown, beige type colours. Down from where I work i`m sure it`s an xfr has appeared, black, huge black wheels and an awesome soundtrack, anything but old man.Anyway you`ve got a rr. so an xf will definately make you seem younger.

1. Are jags still perceived as "old man"? Not the XF or new XJ (Though I am an old man I suppose)
2. Do they still depreciate like a smoking spitfire falling from the sky? Probably, though which car doesn't...
3. Anyone driven one? What are they like? Awesome.
4. What alternatives are there for <50k, that comfy, classy, quick, fairly economical? The usual German stuff I suppose.
I tried an XFR with a view to buying, but then they brought the new (at the time) 5 litre one out which was out of my price range, just waiting for that depreciation to catch up. 2. Do they still depreciate like a smoking spitfire falling from the sky? Probably, though which car doesn't...

Sorry to disappoint you but are you sure you weren't stunned by the XJ's being used, I don't remember seeing any XF's.1. Pippa

As others have said, drive one and if you like it then sod what anyone else thinks. If you're buying new though bear in mind the facelift which is due to ship soon.
And FWIW, you should get 40+ on a motorway run compared with your RR.
