Morning all,

i have recently bought a car from a good friend, and when completing the V5, I didnt remember to keep the "new keepers suppliment". Anyhow The V5 was posted back to the DVLA last week with this still attached.

so I have insured the car, and just had it serviced with a Fresh MOT.

All exited yesterday, I thought lets go to the post office and tax it, i was sure all you needed was A V11 the MOT and Insurance Cert. But Damn it, I do need the V5c/2 new keepers bit to do this.

So it can take up to 6 weeks for the new V5 to be processed! I was hoping to use the car before that, being a new toy and all that.

I have rang the previous owner, in the hope he has something with this reference number I need, old Sorn, or reminder! Fingers crossed he has one!

Simple mistake, but proving a little troublesome.

Can I ring DVLA Customer enquiries vehicles (0300 790 6802), and see if they can look up the unique refernce number for me, so I can simply tax it online?

IIRC the new keeper's supplement is so you can tax at a PO. I expect the old owner will have received a reminder to tax it which will have the number on, but the disc will go to his house as he's still the registered keeper.

Good luck calling the DVLA rofl

If you buy a disk online they will send it to the past owners address until it has been changed over on their system.

The old disk being posted just up the road, isnt a problem, I can go get it.

I don't think it will take 6 weeks anyway.

From the times I've bought and sold cars, I've usually had the new V5 within a week, not that this really helps you.

On the other hand you can be almost sure that in this situation the DVLA will lose/misplace/misprocess the V5 or accidentally file it in a locked filing cabinet in a disused downstairs lavatory with a sign on the door saying "beware of the leopard", along with the public copies of the council plans for the bypass that's going to flatten your house.
