I've had my insurance renewal through and they are offering uk & euro brakedown cover for £47.

I currently pay £16 a month for my AA cover.

From a money pov it's obvious i should go for the one offered with the insurance but, i know exactly what i'm getting with AA (home start, relay etc...) so is that worth the premium?

What do the PH massive do?

I used to have breakdown cover included with Adrian Flux. It was very good, rescued me after and accident and in Spain got me to a specialist repairer. For the money it was a bargain IMO

£16 /month = £192 a year redface

For a start point ADAC do a full fat european breakdown cover for around 80 euros and they even use the AA in the UK.

Check the terms between both (i.e hotel limits, do they bring the car back from Europe e.t.c), if the sub £50 cover doesn't cut it, ADAC no doubt will!.

I've sinse found out that the company the ins company use is called Autohome Limited.

Anybody heard of these.

I am being ripped off with the AA as I checked online and I could get the same deal as what I have for £10 a month.

I knew this ages ago tbh but couldnt bs bothered to change it.

With the AA I know that they will take the car to a garage of my choice, with the ins company the small print says within a 5 mile radius.

I think I'd rather stay with the AA for peace of mind, too many if's and but's with thd other one.

Why do people even bother with this?

If you break down, ring them up and get cover there and then. It might cost you a little bit of a joining fee but its cheaper than pissing around paying each month for a service youre not using.

Simple, because it will cost you approx £140 to get someone out as you are already brokendown so there is a surcharge and you pay full whack no discounts or special offers, and then if you are going further than local it'll be another £50 to add recovery and if the distance is over 50 miles then every mile over 50 will cost you £2. So a breakdown 150 miles away will cost you approx £390 and they want paying there and then.

Its Insurance, peace of mind etc. You could use the same argument against any insurance policy, do you insure your car 3rd party only? If not why not, think how much you could save and if you crash it you can pay to fix it. Self insuring is always an option but people like peace of mind.

Plus if you do break down and join when broken down its gets very expensive.

The example I put was what you pay if you ring up the AA or RAC when you have already broken down.

I'm with the AA, but don's stand for their bullst. Renewal premiums are awful, you pay more than new customers because you get a "loyalty" package (money off wine and similar bks)!! I cancelled mine and then went back as a new customer via Quidco - pretty much half price.

What worries me about the offers from lesser known companies is the level of service when you actually need them...

I don't know about the RAC, but for the AA only Roadside Assistance is available immediately on joining. So if they can't get you going, that limits you to a local garage of the AA's choosing which may or may not be open at the time.

All other AA options require 24 hours of membership before being permitted to use them.
