Following on from partners driving thread.

Do you have your car and partners car or do you just have so many cars between you and you both drive whatever?

My partner and I have four cars and none are "mine" or "his" exclusively and we just drive whatever we fancy, both insured, yet growing up all the cars where mums cars I believe my dad was insured on them but he probably only drove them about 3 times per year!

Do you have his and hers cars or just a fleet which you both drive?

She has hers. She bought hers, she insures hers, she fuels hers. I drive hers sometimes if we're going somewhere together, but usually she drives.

I have mine. I bought mine, I insure mine, I fuel mine. She drives mine sometimes if we're going somewhere together and I'm too blocked to drive.

Mrs Pints is permitted to behold the MX-5 from afar. She does not get to drive it. She's not insured on it.

I'm apparently allowed to drive my Golf when she's not using it. (If you ask her, she'll tell you it's her car. Wimmin, heh!) rolleyes

Very interesting so owning a fleet of cars with your partner with no his and hers and driving whatever whenever really isn't the norm!

Both cars paid for and looked after by me - actual purchase, fuel, insurance, tax, MOT, servicing, cleaning etc.

Whoever has the kids stipulates typically the car they drive (i.e. with kids we normally lean towards the GTI as opposed to the 996).

Typically means that I drive the 996 during the week and my other half the GTI - then on the weekends typically it's the GTI (though I'll ensure an approrpriate 45 min hoon through some very close by B roads in the 996 - to keep it ticking over!).

2 seater sports/hairdressers car for my commute, plus a reasonably sized family estate car for the wife/kids/holidays/weekends. I pay for buying/running both cars.

Toyota Yaris hers, but we are both insured on it.

I have mine and she has hers.

I like bigger cars and she likes smaller hatches.

My wife has her own, 2008 Leon FR, bought by her from 10 months old and insured, run, serviced etc by her. She drives it most of the time but we share the driving when out together.
I have my TVR, unfortunately running costs are not shared but she is insured on it. Thats said she's never driven it nor does she have any desire to drive it. She also hates being passenger in it due to the rather unique way TVRs hold the road and follow every bump and camber.

We tend to have two cars in daily use, we're each the registered keeper of one, all purchase costs & running costs come from a joint account and we both drive both cars, whatever they happen to be.

When we're together I normally drive, her car or mine. I bought her car for her, usually pay half the insurance and often put petrol in it. However, my car is mine (130i), she never drives it, doesn't put petrol in it and doesn't pay anything towards insurance.

If she has to drive it has to be her car (Peugeot 206).

The Galaxy is the wife's and the 306 GTi-6 is mine. This is only in terms of who it's registered to and who drives it to work most of the time. At the weekends and holidays etc I'll normally drive us all about in the Galaxy (it's more economical and easier to get the kids in/out).

As for who paid for the cars, well, we both did. All our money is pooled, so everything we buy is technically a joint purchase.

The only difference is that she'll have to consult me before changing the Galaxy (since it's the main family wagon), whereas I can change my car whenever I want, with the only consultation from her being the "oh god not again" look wink

Some of us do though. We have a number of cars in the household and just chop and change between them to make sure they're all getting used. All shapes and sizes too so jast take whatever suits the purpose!

What stereotypes are they? TBH looking through the posts nothing has really shone out as being overtly stereotypical.

The family car is in her name but costs are shared and we both drive it. The fun cars are in my name and we both prefer it when I drive them hehe

We only have one "sensible" car between us, so not really a "my car and her car" situation on a day-to-day basis.

Disco 1 - Mine, driven by both of us, but we'd need a remortgage if she used it for her daily commute.
X1 - Hers, driven by her mostly, but I'll drive it (reluctantly) occasionally at the weekends.
Camper Van - Mine, share the driving.
Elise - Mine, she's driven it once.
MX5 - Mine, she's not driven it yet, but will probably take it to work tomorrow as her car has a dodgy tyre.

Mine/Hers refers to who's name is on the V5, the x1 and elise are her and my main cars respectively, the rest are kind of pool cars.

Wife's insured on my V10 R8. Decided to let her drive it the other day which was fine right up to the "T" junction pull out. I guess the free revving 520 BHP lump took her by surprise!
Scared me sh.tless! Thought we were heading through the wall opposite!!! I'll stick to the Britvic next time :-) (Interestingly, we've both got clear claims history with no points and it's
a lot cheaper to insure with SWMBO as a named driver, she won't be anymore though...)
