It's here

What a stupid idea. If you ask me it has been created to try and catch drivers speeding. Not lower insurance prices. I think even the most Christian of Christian drivers would agree with me. As for that Zoe girl who did the interview, it says at the bottom she was paid to do that.

What an excellent idea! Sounds like it needs a bit of fine-tuning for location awareness but it's a brilliant way to charge extra for the high-speed reckless teenagers and discount for those who show some respect for the road conditions.

If pay per mile did come in, I'd start saving up so I could move abroad.

This is all well and good but it's how other people drive that dictates your behaviour on the road. You can be the best driver in the world and still get hit by a pillock.

Seems like a good idea to me as most young drivers crash left right and centre yet complain bitterly about ins premiums, duh.
I see no reason why my insurance should be higher to pay for the PS2 generation that think it just vibrates and you carry on!when you hit something.
This scheme gives the decent safe young drivers a break so that they will get cheaper insurance.
The next time you are in a 30 limit just look around at who is doing the speeding and cutting up?
They dont have to buy this insurance.

Very right. And no doubt they'd probably charge you for the privilege of being hit.

I had to go through that red traffic light because if I braked to stop in time, my insurance would go up.
It's only one small step to full on road pricing if too many people volunteer to trial this technology for the gubermint.

Middle aged balding men in Vauxhalls?
There was traffic out side my street last week due to lights, and I was trying to get out of my street to turn right avoiding the traffic. Someone let me out and I had to quickly drive up the pavement to avoid a man in an old Astra driving down the wrong side of the road so he could turn right and skip the que. And as we got level with each other he called me a stupid fking idiot! For driving the right way up the road!

Where's the bit that detects tailgating, how much you've had to drink and how tired you are?

I reckon my driving would be smoothest when I'm really pissed- slow reactions, no jerky movements incase I puke etc....

I don't think generation has anything to do with it. I am sure that the oldest and youngest dirvers have always been the most dangerous on the road throughout the history of the motor car.

I paid over £2000 for third party fire and theft on my first car four years ago which was a 1.3 Fiesta...crazy money and charging that much its no wonder a lot of younger people don't insure.

On another note, I think the scheme could be useful for first timers if it can accurately read someones driving although most will want to give their car a poke sometimes which would ruin it.

Reasons we know pay per mile is coming

1 Easiest way to get revenue from electric cars
2 Lets our leaders track us
3 Someone has to pay for the europian version of GPS
4 Our leaders told us they would not bring in pay per mile

Hope you've started saving

The stats say young men have the most accidents! but hey you know best.
Denial works every time........not.
Or maybe the middle aged men have learnt how not to hit things, either way to be young is to crash.

Younger drivers in a colisions are guilty until proven innocent. I was hit by a car at a round about when I was twenty and it was a battle to get the insurance and the Police to take my word over the driver who hit me. Two years ago and at 31 I was hit at a junction neither the Police or the insurance had a problem with my version of events. rolleyes

I keep a camera in the car at all times now just in case.

You're not allowed to sack someone for being too old but you can make young people pay up to ten times what their car's worth for insurance. How does age discrimination work again?

The problem with this though, is that scheme's like this WILL punish though who accelerate / brake hard, corner faster etc. As Zoe has said on her interview; the box effectively marks you down for what it deems bad driving. There's far too many variables in driving to be able to let a box detect who is or isn't a good or bad driver. Someone taking roundabouts faster due to their car handling better / having more grip is in no shape or form a worse driver then the mum who isn't paying attention to the road and is too busy shouting at the kids in the back, or the old boy who has a reaction time of about 2 minutes...!

Naw mate, an old nearly 60 fart who still has not learnt to slow down.
These days I use a track but am amazed that I came through my twenties without dying or killing anyone.
The roads are more dangerous than when I was young and I would not want to be a young driver now.
