Spotted: Mercedes Benz SL65 AMG
One careful owner...Executive Chairman of McLaren, Ron Dennis CBE
If you're currently hunting for an SL65 AMG, we've found one that you might like to consider. Fresh on the market today is Ron Dennis's 2009 example (Because Mercedes has a flashy, er, Flash website, you'll have to manually search for his SL65 here) in Tenorite Grey with just over 13,500 miles on the clock for £99,990.
Incredibly, when Macclesfield Mercedes Benz acquired the SL they had no idea who the previous owner was. "We've priced it as a regular SL65" says sales executive Matt Stirling, avoiding any temptation to add a provenance premium. "The car arrived along with its documents and I spotted the name on the V5 when the administrator was adding the details to our system."
The name 'Ron Dennis' is of course not entirely uncommon, but upon further investigation it turns out that the vendors are in possession of some other information that confirms beyond doubt that this car was owned by he of McLaren fame.
We'd love to tell you what the information is, but sadly that can only be revealed to serious buyers. But trust us, if you do rock up there (with an appointment and, presumably, a wheelbarrow full of cash) you'll be properly amazed...
We were taken for a quick spin (...whilst of course wondering if Hamilton's or Jenson's OH had sat where we were sitting) and can confirm also that the car itself is in immaculate condition, is almost fully loaded (just the panoramic roof option is missing), and is indecently powerful.
Naturally, it is also sold with the M-B Approved Used Programme unlimited mileage, 12-month warranty. Should hope so too for a hundred grand.
Oh and in case your own better half is a bit jealous of your new toy, they also have Mrs Dennis's SL500 for sale...
The face lifted model does look thrown together and all wrong, what is more worrying is that the spy shots of the new 2012 SL appear very similar, ie the old backend and roof with a higher bonnet and current merc family grill/lights.
An SL should not be ungainly, hopefully the shots released are of development mules rather than finished product?
Cracking engine wrapped in Clinton's Cards tinsel wrap. (IMO of course)
OK, so I'll bite, what is the super secret information, a sneaky engine swap with the Merc F1 motor, a special F Duct?
