Which is the greater sin in car design.

Cars like the Nissan Juke, Fiat Multipla, Morgan Aero 8 are all mind meltingly ugly cars to the majority and even the slightest mention of them brings out the hurl but i like them.

On the other side of the coin is the dull as dishwater cars like the golf, toyota whatever its call, and focus Mk3 etc are epically boring but this is rarely mentioned

So what do you think is worse

Bold and ugly

OR

Dull and dull

ignore the rare designs of korea which manage dull and ugly

The Juke serves no purpose IMO, but other wise bold and ugly is good as it means I can afford a decent used car because they're shunned by the shallow biggrin

Morgan Aero 8!?

Apart from the slightly cross-eyed headlamps, I think it's a brilliant piece of design. Totally Identifiable, classic morgan looks but, with a modern twist.

So on that note, dull and boring get my vote, to be stopped.

Obviously, the middle ground is always nice.

Ps. I'm heading to the classifeids right now to see if I can afford a one yet. smile

Eta - Hadn't looked at one of these for a couple of years. They are actually a bit strange looking aren't they. My vote still stands though.

911 GT3 money too!

Look in any ugly thread and the morgan will be there with the lovers of dull hating it

I'm of the opinion that you don't change things by repeating design like VW, Audi, Ford etc etc.

Without the ugly, how do you know what is beautiful?

I can't stand dull cars, the only thing I wouldn't drive over one is a pink Nissan Micra or something.

The Aero 8 is unique, not ugly. With the road full of foreign based eco-st-boxes, the British built Aero range should be praised, not criticised.

yes

I wasn't a fan of the Bangle designed BMW's but at least they were different from the norm!

At first I thought they were a horrendous design, now I love the z4 and the 5 and 3 look good in some trim levels. I still dislike the 1, 6 and 7, they will never be good.

I agree. Bangle's designs still look fresh today (the new 4, 5 and 6-series don't look anywhere near as interesting or distinctive as their predecessors). Oddly enough I hated the 1-series when it launched, but with the right trim and wheels, it looks pretty good.

The golf I've been rented while my company car is sorted out isn't that bad as long as you accept it for what it was built to do. It's much more comfy for doing long haul driving than my MR2 is so I don't worry that it is a sea of grey inside.

I can't get enough of that dull stuff. Nine times out of ten, I just need transport, and for that a Toyota Corolla does the job brilliantly. Doesn't mean to say I don't love cars. I can just see the merit of a particular car as a white good.

Dull and boring cars are just - sleep

If it's a bit wacky then so be it, at least they tried to do something different.

Dull is the worst. Everything is starting to look like a load of Korean crap. I'd rather designs remain inventive and see the occasional ugly car.

On the other hand, the bew Passat looks great but will no doubt be as dull as dishwater to drive and live with.
