The Friday before last they turned on the variable speed limits between J25-28 on the M1. This Friday I saw the limits come up for the first time, set at 60. I slowed, and immediately cars were zooming past.

I guess there's gonna be a bunch of surprised drivers in a few days when the tickets arrive?

Something I've always wondered, when you get the ticket, is there a photo to prove that the reduced limit was actually showing on the overheads?

Have they installed the cameras yet ? No sign of them when I went through there on Thursday.

I thought they were part & parcel of the same installation? (seems blimmimg daft to add them as an afterthought)

Southbound, at least, has the shelves for cameras on the gantries, but no cameras as far as I could see.

If I'm wrong, I'll let you know within 14 days by a post in SP&L wink

Thanks. It's the front of the Hotel Columbus in Fontvieille (the new bit of Monaco, reclaimed from the sea).

Isn't that how averaging cameras work?

They aren't average cameras because they have the lines on the road, they get you at the point you cross the lines.

Any guesstimates regarding trigger speed?

I wouldn't chance it over 80 tbh, but I'd expect cameras to trigger at >85-90.

Thanks for the heads up. I noticed the cameras and was wondering if they only became active when variable speed limits were applied.

Something tells me they will aplly them a lot.

question is when im samshing down there in flowing traffic will they get me then as well smile looks like I will have to follow a car making similar progress and watch for flashes.

they look like mini rectangular greay gatsos to me with a round bit next to them.

ps the first pole going north had a little yellow sign on them saying cameras not in use last time I went past it.

Very old info, and don't ask how I know wink but they were originally 10% +3mph and 93mph when 'off'. I would not be surprised if that had been reduced now we're all demonized. I stick to the posted limit.

They have been there for nearly 2 months, north and south bound. They were active from the 18th of April.

Yep, I did wonder. I did think all variable limit cameras were averaging?

Last time I was up that way was May 7 and there were definitely signs out saying camera not in use on quite a few gantries. Doesn't stop the odd one being live of course.
