Missing out on a car
Discussion
Spotted a car for sale in the classifieds late last night. First thing this morning I made the call to see the car. Annoyingly, the seller said someone had already called to see it but would let me know if it sold or not.
Got the call an hour later to say it had gone.
There are, of course, bigger things in this world to get upset over. It wasn't anything special (just a Yaris), but it did look in immaculate condition, with low mileage and a great price. In short, it would have made a great little daily driver returning respectable mileage.
So I've just come here for you lot to tell me you've lost out on a much nicer car, better deal, etc. Come on, chaps, make me feel better.

The other man's grass is always greener, chances are it was a very average car that you have bigged up in your mind because you can't have it.
But my grass is always greener. Haven't you heard? http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

i'll do my best.spotted the stunner below on US ebay with less than a day to run. didn't bid but noted it didn't sell and got in touch with the owner who sent me a ton of pics and details. i then had 4-5days dithering over whether it was good idea to buy it, including posting on various US 911 forums. by the time i decided 'yes' he'd relisted it on the friday. saturday i arrange to have a specialist inspection done on monday/tuesday[car was in long beach, i'm in the sandpit]. car gets sold on saturday as i refused to match the offer that came in without having someone look it over. it was a 1970 car with steel RS flares, bilstein suspension, SC brakes and a 3.0SC motor. original motor came with the sale. body was mint, interior needed seats retrimming and new headlining and a general tidy. could have had it for $22k. i'll let the pics do the talking now:

my dad told me of a few years ago when he walked away from a lotus elise s1 I think. It was in immaculate conidtion, with very low miles and the driver needed to sell ASAP as he was leaving the country. The only fault was that it needed new brake disks or something quite minor and not too expensive. The owner reduced his price to about £6,500 for it and my dad still walked away. Having only found this out this week I was a bit mad to say the least lol.
In a slightly related topic I had recently taken a deposit for my RX-8, and the guy text me three days later saying the remaining funds had been transferred which I was very happy about as I've not been able to sell this car for months. Anyway, another chap called me that same day (like buses etc) saying he was staying at a hotel in Gatwick and was very interested in my car, but I told him it was sold. He was quite insistent on at least viewing it and if all was well would pay more than the offer I had already received.
Although, the money had not reached my account I still told the guy it was sold and it'd be incredibly harsh to sell it to him rather than the guy who had left the deposit. He begrudgingly agreed, but I told him I'd keep his number just in case.
A week later it was clear that the original guy was lying about transferring the rest of the money and had no intention of completing the deal as he was avoiding me, and when I rang from an unknown number he heard my voice, hung up and switched off his phone. The other chap had already bought another RX-8 and seemed to take great delight at my misfortune when I rang him to see if he was still interested.

this happened to me too a couple of months ago. Waited months for a decent Audi A3 then suddenly one came up. Very well priced & a top spec (nothing more I could ask for and had my heart set on it). Rang the seller, made arrangements to make the 200 miles journey down, called the seller just before I left home and was told it has just sold. I was absolutely gutted (you know that feeling when being dumped by a girlfriend!!) However another came up a few days later which I managed to pick up and i've been very happy with it! Maybe it was fate..
