When we first moved to England (1982) my Dad was given money to buy a company car.

Back home we had (grandad still has) a burgundy 1971 Boat tail Buick Riviera so with his budget dad bought a 2.8 Granada Ghia (manual) and a second hand RS3100 Capri.

Later (1988-ish) my brother got a Rover 216 Vanden Plas.

My first company car was back in 1999 and was a BMW 318 compact.

I have just been offered the choice of an Eco-diesel Corsa or a Pre-arse!

I told them I'd rather walk. wink

What company car do you have compared to the one your elder reletive used to have and when?

My dads first company car was a Cortina MIV 80 1.6

My first company car was a white fiesta 1100 with grey vinyl seats red stripe down the side and coloured light on the roof

kinda put me off company cars and I'd rather drive what I like

I get a company house...

Anyway, for the company car driver, a Prius would be quite good, would it not? They are probably perfectly nice cars and you hardly pay any tax. Nice.

Hitch46's last co car was a 2.0d V40. My last one, sold last week but paid for by car allowance, was a Mustang GT.

He always had bikes on the side thought so he is technically cooler than me!

This^

tbh, take whatever company car they give you, and then buy a fun car for the weekend with your own money, Im a big fan of runnin the 1 eco car and 1 fun car set-up.

Considering this instead of the allowance.

This.

ALL the company cars on our list are st (well, not st, but just samey samey Euro boxes, ie 1 series, V50, S40 Focus and an Octavia) so if I am going to have to have a st car, I may as well pay no/little tax, so I hope there is a Prius mext time. If its got to be boring, then I want it to be as cheap as possible.

Besides, a Prius cant passibly anly slower or boring than my current S40 R Design.

Surely it all depends on the allowance and options available. In my last job i could have had a Saab 9-3 TE 180 TTid (14% BIK), or, with the allowance Ibought a 2.5 year old 9-3 Aero 180 TTid, and will pocket around £100 a month more than having the company car (after all costs including depreciation).

With a lower allowance it may be worth taking the Pious and saving some money. Don't forget you lose the allowance if you have a car.

I am guessing you don't do many miles if they offered you a corsa, so i would just opt out if i were you.

300 or so a day. I can use my own car and claim back the fuel but they don't like my Rover 213S. rolleyes

It's not like the company has a corprate image to uphold. The Eco-stuff is a company publicity stunt in a "look we've jumped on the green bandwagon" message. My Rover give better mpg that a lot of modern stuff and I don't need to worry about the Carbon Offset of a car that already exists compared to the millions of tons the Hybrid factories produce. wink
