So they gave away a £14k Rolls but only sold 3,000 tickets at £1 each.

Surely he should've just sold the car privately then, and given the £14k proceeds + raffle money (which would admittedly be much less without the Roller as a potential prize) to charity?

Yeah, but the Roller could have been a shed - worth up to £14k.
