Ok I know I have asked this before but once again I'm just seeing how people feel about this.

I have 2 cars, my little C2 which is my first car and I have owned it from new. I have had loads of probs in the past but a £1000+ service has made it settle down, and a mk1 MR2 project car.

Now I want a new car as my daily driver and have been tempted by the likes of a 330Ci, Monaro or ST220, however I can't bring myself to sell or trade my C2, I simply can't bring myself to sell it and can't see why I ever would.

Watching Eric Bana's "love the beast" I know that his car is "slightly" better than a little 1.4 C2 but I feel the same way he does.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has a car they don't think they will ever part with or if everone doesn't get emotionally attatched to thier cars. Or has anyone sold a car and then regretted it, not due to practical reasons etc but simply for what the car meant to them?

I would LOVE a new car that I could comfortably cruise in but set my hair alight at will but I can't afford to have 3 cars. I do have an 8 car lockup where I store and work on my MR2 but its suitableto store 8 cars but only work on around 3 and currently my parents use it as a storage facility for all the crap they wont throw out and the spare space I rent to a friend to keep my costs down (toolage does takeup about 1/8 of the space too)

Anyway, would just like to know how you feel about having "a car for life" or if this just seems stupid to you despite the 80k miles of memories.

Theres something about classics , maybe i'm a tight git who doesn't like paying road tax. 3 out of the 5 cars we have are pre-1973

still got my first car that I bought back in 1986 , 1970 3000 MK1 capri , I did sell it but had the option to buy it back , which i did several years ago.......its changed quite a bit since i last had her for the better . 1970 cologne with a nice V8 conversion, .

Bought the Lotus 22 as a fun car when i was single , but now married with the car sat in France can't really justify keeping her , so probably going to be up for sale next year. Someone is going to have a lot of fun in this

Jaguar E-type currently undergoing resto work , should be completed July , plan to keep in concourse condition and drive around 3k miles a year , see how things go.

Have Dads Honda Areodeck which is obviously special in a sentimental way , very practical estate , going to drive it until it breaks .....

Going to look at a car for the missus , fancy something really impractical , it must be white , fancy an early 911 or an XJS ??

O.o wow that some fair nice cars, I would love to even see something like that Lotus. Your list kinda shames my little C2 but I can't help but being proud of it.

Nice to know you got your first car back, I don't think I would like any changes my cars had unless I decided on them but it's good your happy with the swap smile

I have a vx220 that i bought when it was only about 18 months old 7 years ago. Always said that i will never sell it, and still feel that way.
I even ended up keeping it when i bought my dream car (Ferrari 348). Anyway the Ferrari has now gone, but the VX is definately staying. I would say that i am emotionally attached to the car.

at 18, parents went 1/2s on a MG ZR with me, as a reliable option for uni commuting and work......... Sold it at 21 in a moment of rashness, when I decided I wanted a 200SX.

Wish I never had. 3years, 80k miles added to it's clock, was a proper memory car..

current daily drive is a 1996 320i touring, so practical and generally brilliant that barring fuel prices DOUBLING and the engine falling out...... It'll stay forever.

also got a 2006 saab 9-3, beautiful for long runs, bit kak round town, good when pushed, but a bit wafty. Torn between keeping it and sorting it's "OAP" handling, or flogging on. Its a bloody good car, and has some bonueses, just so damn boring.

Currently looking at a classic for the OH to use daily in summer, and become a project over winter........ MG B GT for sub £2000 anyone? or how about a HILLMAN MINX or MORRIS MINOR? all look fun, and will no doubt stay for a while

The family MX-5 mk1 will probably stay till it dies or i restore it, its just such a fun little car we all like driving and share when we get the chance, i always steal the keys if its a sunny day!

But our 'project' list is long but distinguished, i have the locost/lotus 7, mini 998 cooper, and the daily prelude, dad has a midget, hillman imp and 911 as well as his daily 320i e46.

I am looking at selling the lude for a newer car like a DC5 or Golf GTI, but part of me wants to get a Elise or VX220 or a TVR of some sort and just buy a shunter for winter, general commute. as they have more character and i will enjoy tinkering and working on them.

Although i do have a whimsical idea to buy another MK1 MR2 and properly do it up, as i loved my old one, but the rear arch rust was crippling, but i would just buy new panels if i did it again and wax treat it properly.

decisions decisions.

A couple of years ago I part ex'd my first car for something more fun and regretted it only a few months later. My first car was a Grande Punto Sporting, 1.9tdi. Was quite quick for a 1st car, cheap insurance, cost pennies to run and looked good.

I got rid of it for an RX8 and within a few months was pining for be Punto again. I really liked the RX8 but never really 'bonded' with it, if you know what I mean. It's long gone now though, for a lot less than it cost me!

Would give anything to buy that car back again (reg is WR06 VCE in case anyone knows of it whereabouts).
