A neighbour has a Mk2 Golf Gti 8v. After a bit of headgasket problems, he has an engine that is coated with the sticky film that is the sign of headgasket failure. he has tried a few runs with rad flush in it but it won't shift it. People have recommended dishwasher tablets, washing powder, washing up liquid.

Any others??

A squirt of washing up liquid works well... Leave it in for a day, but flush the system well as it's alkaline... Leave the heater on hot.

We used to have to do this quite a lot as drivers would top the water up with oil.... And the brake fluid up with water, thinking it was the washer bottle.... We had to cable tie the tops on to stop it!

We had some really thick drivers.... I have lost count of the occasions when we have been called out to a van because the supervisor has told the driver to fill it up with oil.... They do as they are told and fill the engine up... Right to the top of the oil filler neck!
