It is worth the amount you want to pay for it! It is worth looking it over pretty thoroughly, but the thing which probably makes the most difference is when it was declared Cat C. If recently then the damage may not have been much, if longer ago then it might have been a major repair. Cat C means that the repair cost was greater than the value of the car, but that could include all the other associated costs including things like a hire car for the owner, storage fees waiting for parts etc.

They can be as low as 50% of the value of a non recorded car, as far as I am aware there is no easy way to find out what the damage was, just when it was recorded.

Any risk bearing in mind it passed vic check?
A vic test is just an identification check, it does not have any relevance to the repairs done to the vehicle or the quality of such repairs, all they do is check VIN numbers, it takes about 10 - 15 mins.

Cat C would be 40% off typical prices for the spec.

If you want to know what was fixed, simply ask the seller who repaired it (and ask them) or what the damage was, assuming their car.

As for assurance on how good a job the repairers did, you could have it checked out by Autolign, but it'd need to go to their test facility, as their mobile inspection would be no better than an AA/RAC one.

Regarding insurers, you'll just have to phone yours and ask them if they or their underwriters have any problem with insuring a repaired write-off, and for what value.
