Hello all.

I had a bad weekend, I turned a corner and some muppet on a push bike with his headphones in didn't look and flew straight out in to the side of my car - thankfully not in front or could have been much nastier for him.

I can't get any money out of him as he was about 15 and doesn't have insurance to ride a bike or money to pay me so I am left with this:

I am not claiming on my insurance as it would kill my renewal price but do you reckon a mobile dent repair could sort this out easily? Whats is a good price for this to be fixed?

I did take the door card off and I can feel the bumps on the metal from the inside - I just have no tools to push them out with as its pretty cramped.

Also tried the hairdryer and freeze spray combo which popped it out a little bit, but not a lot!

Cheers.

Apologies if I'm mistaken, but is this a Rover 25?

???

Why the feck not get any money out of him??
Ok, perhaps not him directly but I'd have a good go at getting his parents to cough up!

He needs to learn that his actions bring financial implications!

Try a wet sink plunger. Gently press in and then pull out hard.

And watch out for cyclists in future.

His parents household contents might cover this under third party liablity. I had an accident when I was under 16 and my parents house insurance coughed up for the damage to the car and the bike.

I'd actually remove the door card and gently see if it can be popped back from the back if it was me. The act of pushing in the plunger might deform the door beyond a quick fix.

ETA: Can see you've already tried this. If you can't coax it to pop out a specialist might be able to.

Failing that it's a filler and respray job!

Presumably that's what they call getting your retaliation in first.

Try not to let this descend into an anti cyclist rant, this was a daft kid on a bike wearing an Ipod, not a proper cyclist, we are too busy obstructing you in chorus line type groups, displaying our Lycra clad buttocks and spending all the money we save on "Road Tax".

Cheers for all the help.

To confirm he was on the pavement, and crossed to go to the other side and swung straight out in to my car as he didn't look.

I did see him but he was just pedalling along normally so didn't think anything of it until he hit me.

I think I'll see a specialist as having removed the door card it was too cramped to do anything other than push with my hands, which didn't work.

I didn't get his details but wish I had, I was a bit shocked to be honest as unlike a car on car crash I didn't really know how I could get money off him and what to do. I also couldn't be really angry at the time as he was practically crying and his bike was ruined so I felt that would be a bit unfair even though it was his fault and he has given me a headache over my door. To add to this it was getting dark and I didn't see how bad the dent was until I got back.

I know for next time. Hopefully wont ever happen again though!

A decent dent guy will be able to remove that completely for about £50 - 70. If you live in |South devon there's a brilliant guy called "Dentcure" who seems to be able to remove any bloody dent big or small magically. Just had a couple done on my 129, can't see they were ever there.

Just had some quotes, its coming in around £90 from the ones I have heard back from so far.

Seems reasonable if it fixes it.
