I've acquired a 1991 Honda Prelude with just 18,000 miles since new, owned by an elderly chap and garaged since then. I haven't got room to keep it and so looking at putting it up for sale. I'm not sure how to value it, as most seem to be maximum £500. It doesn't seem like a classic car to me but would someone pay more for the condition and mileage?

Can you prove the mileage?

Not sure if it'll be worth anything even if you can but if you can't, it's definitely not.

Stick it on a classic cars for sale site at 2k and see what happens.
As soon as you say it's a low miles classic the price instantly doubles, at least.

Is there a Prelude dedicated forum?

If not maybe try a general Honda forum, maybe a CRX club or something.

I'd definitely say it's worth more than a £500 banger with 100k miles. But then again, with all cars like this, it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it!

I inherited a Metro City 1987 three door car from my grandmother in 2001.

It was a one owner full service history absolutely mint car Ziebarted from new totally immaculate inside and out and literally not a scratch, with full main dealer service history AND only 13,700 miles from new.

Every MOT, every service record, every part invoice,AND the last eight MOT's confirmed the mileage totally showing less than 50 miles a year.

Pondered hard and long advertised the car NOT A SNIFF.

My son and daughter both used the car at Uni absolutely fantastic reliable workhorse. In the end simply got replaced as they graduated and bought new cars

MORAL IS:

If it had been a Classic Mini it would have flown out probably to Japan for a lot of money. If it had been a Classic Mini and I had kept it what would it fetch now. Totally un-restored totally genuine low mileage car.

But sadly it was the unloved Metro. Much more usable with its hatch but not classic material.

Sadly I would be very surprised if you can get anything like decent money for this. But good luck to you I hope it sells.

If it is in very good condition I reckon you could get 2-3 grand. What model is it? There are Prelude specific forums where people will pay a lot for the right car.

If it really does have at least a stamp in the service book for each of its 20 year life and 17 MOTs then you can expect someone to pay above 'the market' for it. £1,999?

I brought a 10 year old celica with 17000miles on 1 owner and full toyota service history, paid about £200 more than i would have for a 100,000 mile example as the guy had no interest trying to sell it for a bigger money.

it's deffo worth more than £500 but you might be pushing it at £2k, find a honda specific forum site and see what interest you have there

Have a look at ludebehaviour.co.uk bumped into a bunch of them at a Tamworth services by accident on an owners meet up (randomly I was in my old '95 Prelude at the time.

Thanks for that went over there and were really helpful. Driven it now and blast from the past (my parents had an accord of the same era!) - same switches and everything!

Not worth 2, I put my mint '98 37k prelude up for that and only had muppets and dreamers making contact. Was a blinking shame, as I had finally found one of my must own cars at the right price.

I reckon if you were prepared to take 1250-ish would see it sell, but be prepared to wait for a buyer.

A 91 Prelude would be the poppy up lights model so it has a bit of desirability to those JDM Retro lovers but being only a 2.0 EX in Heather Mills spec does devalue it a bit, with a years ticket I'd be trying for £1250-1500.

It's arrived now and don't think I'll be selling, it's too good! I started a thread once before about not liking old cars and I think it was because I'd only been in knackered ones! It's unmarked inside and out and smooth, no rattles and starts on the button. Plus it has so much more character than our TT or Golf. The visibility is excellent with thinner pillars all round (though not sure what that would do for it in a crash).

I think I am starting to see the appeal of an older car and even though it's not the most exciting one feel a bond with it and what to get it back to top condition. Just washed and waxed it and going to get it a cover as I feel guilty leaving it in the rain!
