Does anyone actually believe this makes a difference any more? Car dealers still push it on adverts.

I've just bought a car with two lady owners from new and it's absolutely disgusting inside and out and has no service history since 2005.....

Tear in the carpet on the driver's side near the clutch pedal probably due to driving in heels, wear on the steering wheel consistent with long nails, etc etc.

So - what's your opinion if you see a car advertised as "one lady owner"? Positive? Negative? Indifferent?

Personally I judge it by the fitness of the seller and the likelihood of her wearing very short skirts. If both of those are positive then the drivers seat has some extra value for me!

Judging by the mess in this car I wouldn't like to see the state of it's last owner TBH

Ive never understood the "one lady owner" thingy either. Why buy a car thats never been looked after, full of parking dents and been driven with no cocept of mechanical sympathy?

Don't forget the joys of low milage

AKA

Granny has owned it and all parking has been done at 6000Rpm through a blue haze of clutch smoke

This has done 105k so not much chance of that but I do agree - I had a very low mileage car before and it was mechanically pretty poor

Generally alerts one to the fact that the interior will be filthy, the clutch will need replacing imminently, the doors will need some serious Masterdent attention and the bumpers will need repainting as they'll be battered, parking sensors or no parking sensors...

It's a note of caution but as ever, the car's condition is more important and there's no universally applicable rule.

How many 'lady owners' are going to be car enthusiasts? If you want to buy a car that has never been washed, never had the bonnet open, all 4 alloys kerbed to fk and probably never had any kind of service/maintainance because they would rather spend their hard earned on clothes and useless st for around the house then go for it.

Personally if it said that in the advert i wouldn't give it a second look!!

When i see 'One lady owner' i automatically think; never been serviced, driven into every kerb and need a new clutch.

My girlfriends mini is low milage lady owner from new, but it gets serviced because her dad takes it to sytner for her. Otherwise i honnestly think she would never ever do it.

Have seen this come up a few times on PH, what is the issue with this?

If you are selling a car and its a one owner car of course you should refer to this in the advert, its a positive thing. I've had lots of one lady owner cars that were really nice, why the hell wouldnt you refer to this when writing the advert? If you dont mention how many owners people will ask the question.

Would you rather have a car with multiple unknown owners? At least with one lady owner the car stands a good chance of having been well looked after (above average chance).

As with any car it comes down to its condition - so if its a dog of a car that had one lady owner then I wouldnt touch it.

I have found with one lady owner cars they tend to have a good provenance eg all servicing done by same garage, comes with 2 keys, fitted mats, old bills... all that sort of thing, and in theory its not been thrashed.

Then again what if the one lady owner was Michelle Mouton?

I think it depends if the woman owner is the wife of of an enthusiast, my wife drives our cars much more lightly than I do, I can just tell my the amount of brake dust on the front wheels. However I look after them, as if it was down to her it would never be cleaned or serviced.

I am sniffing around a Merc C32 AMG estate at the moment, that's described as having a previous woman owner and it's immaculate, is it really a woman owner or an enthusiastic husband who registered the car in his wifes name, if so it's all pretty meaningless.

The only good thing about 'one lady owner' is that she's unlikely to have buggered about under the bonnet and you can look at the service history. Better that than someone who thinks he can!

I can see the point in emphasising a one owner car - why is their sex relevant?

It's a shed. It starts, stops and steers, has a strong engine and gearbox and was a fair bit below market value.
