Face lift Cupra MK1, waste of cash over the pre face lift?
Discussion
Evening,
The pre-facelift models (1.8t sport)seem to go for under £2,000 where as the face lift version (2002+) seem to go for £3.5+ & the only difference is the cosmetics as far as i'm aware.
Would you say this is a waste to spend quite a bit more just for style?
Cheers.

Do you mea te Ibiza or the Leon. If the Ibiza then its actually a completely new car and is very different. The pre-facelift models (1.8t sport)seem to go for under £2,000 where as the face lift version (2002+) seem to go for £3.5+ & the only difference is the cosmetics as far as i'm aware.

Sorry, forgot to put the model! It's the Leon. Really like the Ibiza's but after owning a Golf, i wouldn't mind something of a similar size/shape/layout.AlpineWhite said:
Whether it's worth it or not is down to you, but I think the facelifted one looks far more modern. Also the pre-facelift cupras look no different to a standard Leon, wheels excepted.
Yup, i never really considered the pre face lift but it'd save me a good £1500, maybe even more. The Face lift version does look good & very subtle & as you say, much more modern. If i go for one it'd most probably be the pre face lift then.
We have the Mk1 I'd fully agree the mk2 is much more distinctive over the other models in the range.
Engine is the same chassis the same wheels and body kit different.
What about interior?
Were happy with ours and we wouldn't pay the extra for a newer version. The cupra R possibly but it's quite a bit more.

Think you got it mixed up. Engine is the same chassis the same wheels and body kit different.

I'm talking about the Mk1, they made the standard MK1 Leon's & then they made a face lift MK1 around 2002.SteveS Cup said:
I'd go for the facelift. I think I prefer the facelift front to the R front!
But the question is is it worth it? It's nearly double the cost... Hard to justify IMHOIt looks more distinctive but that's it. Everything else is identical.
I would say the upgrade to the R225 is worth it ... Just.
Have a look to see what condition you find each to be in and go for it that way.
I must say apart from wheels and exhaust ours could be conducted with a 1.4S...
You have a fair point. Bumpers off eBay might cost £300, another £200 to paint and a few hundred for some wheels. £700 to basically "facelift" it although I think the mirrors are different too.
If you have £2000 then I can't see you being upset with the pre facelift... What do the mk1 Octavia VRS's go for these days though? I think I'd take one of them over a pre facelifted leon if they're similar money. (I know this isn't really a what car thread and you may already thought of the VRS so apologies in advance!)

Thanks for the replies.
I do really like the look of the pre face lift, obviously not aggressive or fairly modern but in comparison with the Golf/A3 of the same age the Leon has a bit more character & you don't really see them as much.
SteveS Cup - I've not really looked at the Octavia's (will do) but i did have a search for the Fabia's which seem more around £4,000. Not heard anything bad about these Skoda's!

Fabia is TDI so has probably held it's value better. Octavia is 20VT like the Leon, Golf, A3. It has the KO3S turbo same as the Leon so maps to about 220bhp. The KO4 turbo upgrade is fairly simple I believe (same as 225 R).
I've had 3 20VT's and I love them (Ibiza, TT and a converted 6n2 polo gti running near enough 300bhp). Easy to tune and run for ever!
I'd have the Octavia if it was me. They can look fantastic very easily, just lower it slightly IMO! Some on PH around the £2k Mark, they have high miles but I can't imagine the Leon being much lower.

Only owned one 1.8t before which was a Golf, only had it a short while as it had gearbox issues, this was the K03 model. Performance was pretty poor but was going to get around to remapping it. I hope on the next car it's the K03s (if i went for the Cupra's)
I'll give the Skoda's a search.
