Not as far as I'm aware, front foglights aren't complusory so I wouldnt imagine you'd be failed for a cracked lens.

Thanks for the replies, i've done a quick google search and it appears the functionality of the fog light isn't checked, it's the sharp glass which might be an issue.

Think i might call the test centre in the morning and ask.

But if front fogs are fitted they need to be serviceable though don`t they?

Rear for lamps are tested. If it is not showing any white light when lit it sould be okay.
If it is showing white light should fail.
You can get lens tape if you want to go down this route. Halfrauds sell it.

They're not a testable item.

He'll get an advisory at most.

I see your point but I always thought that they didn't check the foglights regardless of fitment. I maybe wrong, though.

I stand corrected then. I thought it was along the same lines as a spare tyre, not compulsory to have but if present must be legal.

Condition of spare wheel is not part of the test either.

As stated above the front fogs are not part of the test but if the lens is sharp and could cause damage to a pedestrian it can fail for sharp edges, if you are unsure on it just cover the broken light with some gaffer tape, I test cars and have never failed one yet like this.

Sorry I thought it was the rear foglight you were referring to.
The tape will be okay for the fronts and will negate the sharp edge issue.

The tester is supposed to tell you if he notices a bald/damaged/otherwise defective spare wheel, but it's not actually testable.

No. Put my wife's car through this year with one front fog working, and the other nowhere to be seen.

Edit: that'll teach me to leave a tab open for half an hour...
