Pretty simple really; I am getting married, and on the run up I have been consigned to a Clio 172 to aid my 'financial realignment'. While cheap and hilarious on the twisties, it is certainly lacking compared to my previous chariots in many departments.

So, unlike the fiancée, I am looking beyond that fateful day to a time when my investment burdens become more petrol orientated again.

So, for May next year I will be in the market for something loud with at least a V8 and no roof.

10k is a sensible starting point, so fly my pretties, aid me in my V8 dreams.

The 172 will be fine for the track and day to day pottering, so I'm looking for a noisy and 'eventful' experience when climbing into this beast.

Running costs, age, seats, etc, etc, are not a concern. My only requirements are ball tingling noise and sky.

Guess you really need to wait until next year tbh. But I think mainly of 2 types of cars when V8 and fast are mentioned.

-TVR
-American muscle

So Chim, Griff or my fav Cerbera for the TVR camp.

C4 ZR-1, C5, C5 z06, C3 for the Vettes.

LS1 Camaro, SS, Trans Am, WS6, Firehawk. Or a tidy 2nd Gen Trans Am/Camaro

Mustangs, 2003/4 Cobra with the supercharged engine or a s197 GT.

11th Gen Ford Thunderbird too, quite a looker.

But I suspect including a Jag XKR or a number of Cobra kits might be a sensible option too.

A Cerbera has a fixed roof doesn't it?confused

It screams TVR though - Griffith or Chimeara I'd say are best bets.

Other options are a Jag XKR or something MB/AMG.

Almost anything else bar the american stuff is gonna be cylinders short or tin top or just dull.

Monaro? Quite a few under 10k nowadays.

EDIT - No roof, sorry.

Difficult to see much past either a chimaera or a griff tbh, although other V8 TVRs are available.

MG B with a V8 in as a left field choice? Or the slightly awkward looking RV8?

Triumph Stag?

Westfield with the V8 in it?

Jag XK8?

Don't think you'll get a V8 M3 convertible for that sort of cash, but I could be wrong. Similarly, Audi S4 convertibles are a bit more I think.

Failing that, then you're into the American stuff if you can live with the poor interiors.

I have the desire for roofless fun so although the Cerby and the Monaro are very tempting, I fear my skills with an angle-grinder will not suffice.

True. Kind of missed the no roof bit. But in fairness the op also said see the sky and I reckon you can normally do that from the windscreen too hehe

OP - lots of lovely 60s and 70s Yank Metal to consider. But be warned most rag tops weigh more, are slower, handle worse and use more fuel compared to the coupe variants.

So if performance is a high point look for purpose built soft tops like the Vette or TVR's or targa/t-tops like the Vette Coupe or the 4th Gen Fbody's.

Didn't realise these were down to £10k. Looks like a nice car.

Does it have to be a V8? Would a flat 6 suffice? classic 911 can be had for that sort of money with a targa or as a convertible?

Are there not some old school italian stuff with V8s? I have a suspicion that there are but I just keep thinking of Ferrari 348s which are obviously way out of budget here.

Mercedes Benz SL500 if reliability and waftability are high on the list.
TVR Griffith if fun and style is top of the list.

V8 minimum. The 172 satisfies the handling and track itch so wafting with that wonderful burble is key.

I really like the S4 suggestion, mainly because it is a bit mad but understated, the soon to be wife will like the Audiness of it and, well, it has a V8. With some fettling with the exhausts I'm sure I can get the rumble I require.

I do tend to lean toward the German side so the SL500 is also a tempting choice.

CLK55's have been floating my boat recently? Might struggle on 10k though?

EDIT: That S4 is an excellent deal...
