Insurance help? 21 years old, '04 type r, 3 points?
Discussion
Hi all, just need some advice if possible, I'm 21, drive an '04 plate civic type r, have 3 points and live in Cannock, near Stafford.
The cheapest quotes I'm getting are around the £2k figure :-/
Anyone know any companies that could beat that? I plan to phone Adrian Flux tomorrow and see what they say but just wanted to know if anyone knows of any others that could help.
Cheers folks

I've found flux to be less and less competitive with quotes, I was insured with them when I was 20/21 for around 1500 on a Supra tt with light mods declared. The cheapest quotes I'm getting are around the £2k figure :-/

Now I only ever seem to find Admiral can give me competitive quotes.

Only 2k? You should be happy with that. How much was your insurance last year?
Are you kidding??I am 19, with 1 year NCB, clean licence, and I can insure an Accord Type R for half that!

Also I'd see an Accord Type R as a far lesser risk than a Civic Type R purely down to demographic.
Give Admiral a try. Cheapest for me and my mates of similar age on a range of cars.
I'm 22, 4 years NCB and insure a Teg Type R for around £800.
Also, rather unbelievably, if you're insuring it as kept on a driveway, try changing it to being kept on the road - learnt this recently.
ETA: Flux simply said no to me

insurance is highly individualistic, so saying x-insurer is cheapest or y-insurer is best is kind of pointless. trawl through the comparison sites, if you get a good quote from there, then try the individual site of the insurer you got a good quote from. if the comparison sites don't help, then try the ones that don't use them. From then on, try specialist insurers that say they are friendly to people with points/young drivers. Then try insurance brokers, get them to do the work for you. If after all that you're still really desperate, then try asking on car model-specific forums, and check out places like quidco/money supermarket/hotdeals for any sort of discounts/cashback you can get to make your insurance cheaper.
The more quotes you get, the better idea you'll have.... given your circumstances.
If its still all too much, then consider changing those circumstances to make your insurance more affordable. (lower the miles, change the car, change where its parked, sex change). But even then.. is it really worth selling a car just to get cheaper insurance?

When our 19 year old local delivery guy turned up in a Beemer I asked him about the insurance.
He said it was £1400 for a snotter or £1600 for the BMW. £200 a year extra for a decent set of wheels was a no-brainer for him
Slightly O/T, but I've just re-newed my insurance, I'm a little older, but the insurance for a £1k, 1.0 Micra came out the same as my existing 57-plate Focus. In fact provided I wasn't silly, the insurance quotes never really changed regardless of what car I actually selected. I should probably try more PH metal He said it was £1400 for a snotter or £1600 for the BMW. £200 a year extra for a decent set of wheels was a no-brainer for him
