Inspired by the thread posing the question of annoying drivers and their cars of choice, what about the flip side of the coin. Are there cars out there that are consistently well driven? I've noticed the following pattern:

  • Alfas - Yes, I know I drive one, but this isn't mindless, rose-tinted fanboi-ism. I genuinely can't remember the last time I saw an Alfa being poorly driven. They're often driven enthusiastically and with spirit, but not unsafely.
  • Swedish stuff - Volvos and Saabs. Fairly non-discreet, sensible drivers who seemingly follow the highway code to the button.
  • Maserati - There's not many about, but there's certainly an elegance to the way that they seem to be driven.
Opinions?

Somebody is going to come along and start ranting about BMW and/or Audi drivers. I can feel it in my bones...

Traction engines. I have yet to see any hogging the middle lane of the motorway, or cutting in at the last moment in roadworks and then claiming "well it says merge and it's not just me being an impatient tt in a german car" on PH afterwards nor have I seen them park in a disabled space without displaying a badge. Even if they don't display a badge at least the space is flatter afterwards so allowing less bumps to deal with for the disabled people in their wheel chairs.

And they slow down for horses. They actually slow down as soon as they start, how equine friendly is that? Flippin marvellous. Mind you, there's always one rolleyes

Look at this maniac driver

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLlUgilKqms

It's that sort of thing that gives traction engine drivers a bad name. And he wasn't even driving a traction engine !

I can honestly say I've never seen a badly driven AMG Merc.

Plenty of badly driven crappy four pot Mercs with AMG badges though. Fancy that.

I was going to post that I've never seen a badly or aggresively driven Alfa Romeo in my life but the OP beat me too it. I know they're not a common sight but still.

I read in a magazine once that an Alfa Romeo owner is more likely to have a Masters Degree than the owner of any other marque. I've no idea how true it may be but it's something that's stuck with me over the years.

I had one trying to climb into my boot the other day on the M25......

I can't think of a specific car where I've only ever seen them well driven ( I mean, the Diablo I saw the other week was driving along at 50mph which is not well drive for a Lambo IMHO, but it's the only Lambo SV I've ever seen on the road! )

As another Alfa owner, I have to say I have seen some awful driving from some of them. Granted I havent seen any dangerous driving, aside from one 156 who decided to undertake at speend a HGV and half a dozen other carson a roundabout, as well as jumping some traffic lights showing a red light. Just mainly poor lane discipline, no indicating and the usual standards of driving these days.

To add probably the only make I havent driven badly would probably be Bentleys, not including conti GT's, and Astons.

Well, what a coincidence, I was just thinking the same thing.

Particularly air cooled 911s, what damn fine chaps. Handsome fellows too.
