Set my wipers off last night, only for them to 'crawl' accross the screen really slowly, the crawl back. I dont think they will be suitable for heavy rain now so need to get fixed.

Whats the likely problem/fix?

Cheers

What car?

May need a new motor but check the wiring first.

What car is it? I had similar with my old Toledo years ago, turned out it was the wiper linkage that had started to seize up.

Either the wiper motor is seizing up or it is not recieving sufficient volts to

make it turn properly smile

Might just be that the wiper nut needs tightening (if you are VERY lucky!)

Although unlikely if it's both I'd have thought. Still, cheap easy fix if it works!

Audi A4. Might be the nut, as they were removed about 6 months ago for work. And the drivers side one drives the passenger side one with another linking rod, so would affect both sides at once....

cheers for tips, will look at it tonight.

Sadly no i can tell you exactly whats wrong with it....

Its a common fault. The bearings in the wiper mechanisms are a known weak point and seize up.

Mine did it.
New one is around 80 quid iirc. Takes a bit of fiddling to fit yourself but not impossible.

Same thing happened in a '99 Seat Toledo I once had..

I presume it's a similar mechanism, if not the same.

As an added you dont need to remove the rubber across the front of the battery cover.

Simply remove the actual battery cover then you can pull it up from the rubber across the front and just pull it out.
The scuttle cover at the base of the screen does not have to be removed either so ignore that instruction.
Granted not removing it makes it a little more fiddly to do the job but means you dont have to risk breaking and therefore replacing it.

There we go happy to help.
