Temporary car insurance for a non-uk resident

Morning all

A friend of mine has his daughter in law coming over from Portugal for a week in fortnights time and is looking for 7 days temporary insurance on his car. Hes tried his current insurer, Chaucer, but they are a no go. I've tried some searches on line but nothing coming up. Shes 37, with a full EU licence.

Surely someone on Pistonheads has been in the same situation. Who can cover this sort of risk?

As a last option he could try hiring a car. UK insurance companies seem to be charging too much lately even for local drivers, hiring a car is probably a better idea.
