How insane would you have to be to buy this for £7k
18k on the clock and immaculate, but could you actually drive it or use it?
They do have a certain charm though.

IIRC these had a particular feature if you fired one up from cold and immediately applied full lock. The resistance of the power steering pump would cause the cambelt to jump a few teeth and then your engine was toast.
Wonder if it will make 19,000 miles.
Interesting concept, though, and interesting styling. Great velour.

That's very true. Pity really - one of those cars that's ache-inducingly gorgeous, and yet has so many 'issues' with it that can't really be solved unless you do something seriously drastic - like replace Lancia's flat-four with one from a Subaru. Others in this bracket include the Triumph Stag (only buy if the entire cooling system has been replaced with one of a completely new design from Rimmer Bros, including a radiator twice the size of the one originally fitted), the Alfa Romeo Montreal (the fuel-injection system has its very own servicing schedule, including account-decimating rebuild every 30,000 miles. Many owners convert them to carbs), and the NSU Ro80 (where to start...).The MGA Twin Cam used to be in this no-go zone before specialists sorted its problems decades down the line. Looks like anything with a Rover K-series will end up in the 'drastic preventative maintenance required with every purchase' bracket, with the fitment of a new mild steel head gasket from a Freelander or a new N-series, plus low-cooland warning lights and buzzers. Not that it's a bad engine, it's just that its achilles' heels are so well known, if you want longevity out of it it's clear what you have to do.
Even bigger WOW for this ...

4795. Well, with fees etc could be 5k plus. Given it'll get haggled a bit I think the sticker price is fine.Harry Flashman said:
Sorry chaps: that is dog ugly. Retro or not, I think that there are some rose-tinted specs being worn around here!
Straight out of the 'anything old is crap' bag of arguments. This has concours written all over it. Anyone buying to use would be a fool. An appreciating asset in this condition.
