630i Sport - talk to me

I must be getting old. Thoughts of a 130i or an E46 M3 are subsiding in favour of a 6 Series.
I need to admit that I'm almost 40, do 15,000 miles a year (often in a state of exhaustion or distraction) and I really don't need a balls out, on the limit type of piston-heads/EVO 5* Star car.
What I need is something that can overtake with ease, looks great, is a great cruiser, has all the toys, has occasional rear seats, and doesn't cost a kings ransom to run.
Therefore, with circa £18k to spend, my conclusion is that I need a 630i Sport.
So, I'd really appreciate any experiences and views of these as to whether they're fit for purpose and whether a circa 06 630 is going to be a money pit.
(I'm coming out of Merc C320cdi btw which is quick and economical but handles like a barge and is boring in the extreme).

I actually don't mind the looks of the 6 Series, although its far from pretty. Not sure how well it'll age either. But looks are subjective, so if you like it, then that's all that counts.
Performance is ok'ish. Does it get good enough mpg for you? It's a big heavy machine.
As for being a money pit. Well it shouldn't be any worse than a 5 Series. The only thing I suspect it'll suffer from is tragic depreciation.
Have to say personally I'd probably be happier spending a bit less and buying a Monaro (with some Holden badges
to replace the Vauxhall ones). MPG won't be quite so good, but lower purchase price and a better engine would kind of make up for it.I quite like the 6 series, but the 630i is bit underpowered. If it was me I'd have to find another grand or two and get this:

I'm a big BMW fan, but think I'd choose the XK over the 6er.

tting all over M3's king tractor with 2 turbos that will need replacing at around 100,000 miles, isn't much more economical in the real world than the x30i and you have to wear those silly fking gloves when filling up at the black pump otherwise your hands stink. 
Drove the 630i and 635d about a year ago, the 630 is under powered and the engine really doesent really suit the car.
The 635 was fantastic you would never know it was a diesel, very very quick and loads of torque.
I am the same age and ended up with 730d m sport mainly as I couldnt justify the extra 10k for the 6 over the 7

I've driven a 630i convertible albeit only for a week or so.
It was certainly comfortable and like most BMWs, it doesn't feel as though you are driving a big car. The 3.0 litre engine felt much quicker than I expected it would be when you consider how big and heavy it is. You can push them through a series of tight corners but it just doesn't feel involved enough for my liking.
Would I buy one? No. It's just not exciting enough for me. The 130i would be quicker, more economical, enjoys cruising on the motorway with minimal effort and should the mood take you, you'd have immense fun taking it for a B road blast.

Ah fair point, in fact I just sold the Griff as I wasn't using it, since I have had the 7 Series I have used it more than any of the others, a combination of the fact its an auto, supremely comfortable, very quiet and most of the time these days I cant be bothered with the faf of driving a sports car.Yes I must be getting old !!, but the roads are shocking, the traffic is just stop start (7 mile journey to work can take 15 mins or 45 mins depending on traffic !!) and I struggle to leave any of my nice cars anyway for fear of them being dented, nudged or spat at ( happened 5 times now)
God I sound grumpy !!!
