Only if it's well balanced.

Ford KA = lots of fun, especially in the snow.

Just sold a bog stock Triumph Herald convertible...60bhp and skinny crossplies, four wheel drifting 'round roundabouts as easy as you please. Skinny tyres, yea, lots of fun as long as you can drive properly, sometimes tiresome when you need to get somewhere tho' esp' in the wet.

Agree. The missus has a Citroen C1 and I've had it in a 4 wheel drift at about 20mph. Great fun!

Couldn't agree more - my sister's old one was a hoot to drive like a hooligan, even despite the frankly epic 59bhp it was putting out.

Yep. Loads of bodyroll and understeer won't be any fun.

However, more specific to the thread title, the KA was (what I may term as) a good handling little car, and so can't really be included in this discussion. So...

A Yaris I once drove, despite having many of the hallmarks of a potentially fun little skinny-tyred car, handled absolutely atrociously and was no fun at all, no matter how many times you bounced it off the rev-limiter.

Depends what's crap about the handling. It could be an entertaining quirk, or a frustrating quirk. It also depends on other aspects of the driving experience. Is the steering is giving nice feedback up unto the point where the car sulks off into terminal understeer? Does it have a really sweet gearchange?

I had a lot of fun driving an ancient Renault 9 along simply because I felt so connected to everything compared to the modern cars available at the time. The gearchange wasn't fast or anything but it did actually feel like it was controlling a box full of gears. The steering had that spongy FWD feel to it, but the thin rim and skinny tyres gave it a delicate quality that was quite satisfying to fingertip along. The brakes were.... actually they were rubbish. Fortunately so was the engine.

But it was good fun in a back to basics way, despite the fact that the actual handling was pants.

I wouldn't want to drive one every day, but it's a refreshing reminder of what motoring is when you remove all the modern refinement and rubber and isolation.

No, had an N-Reg Micra with mismatched skinny tyres.

Threw a huge fit when I threw it into a corner, where as something like a Peugeot 106 is great fun to throw at country lanes and roundabouts.

In answer to your question... only if the engine is revvy in nature.

Morris Minor on cross-ply tyres. Will make you feel like a power sliding hero at 20mph.

Definatly as echoed above, need to have a reasonable chassis and skinny tyres. Had a ball in a 1.0 106 recently...

On 165/70R13 remoulds.

You had to be Jean Alesi to get it around corners.

Crap car = Nissan Micra 998cc

Skinny Tyres = Pretty bloddy scary on the motorway wandering around - but fun on the country lanes

I ran a Vauxhall NovaVan 1.5D as a runaround for a couple of years. I don't think I'd call it fun, but learning to drive around its deficiencies taught me more about driving quickly than all my years of driving much faster in more capable cars.
