Claires Prodrive Brera SV6 is going in the classifieds next week and she'll be in need of a new whip. Currently set on a 2009 BMW 320d Coupe M Sport she has asked me if there are any other options.

She needs something that retains a good level of comfort and style. Must have leather, good looks and not at all chavvy / OTT. It must also have good fuel economy as she'll be commuting in it every day. The budget limit is 20k but she'd like to spend less.

What you reckon folks? Any suggestions?

Eddie

Not direct experience, but the TTD is a quattro, so probably expect mid to high 40s. The petrol 2.0T FWD should do high 30s to 40 on a run.

I'd get the petrol - but then this is PH hehe

Why not get something a bit older, with a lot more class than a BMW 320D (which in my opinion *is* a little "chavvy")

Ideas:

Saloons - BMW 5 Series, Jaguar XJ6/8/12/ whatever the more modern ones like to call themselves, Jaguar XF
Coupes - Jaguar XK8/R, Mercedes CLK
Sports - BMW Z4, Mercedes SLK, Porsche Boxster

Just a few quick ideas from the top of my head. smile

Why doesn`t she buy a cheap snotter for a grand and buy you a speedboat with the other 19, that would prove how much she loves you, and you can prove how much you love her by accepting it!

This car is for a woman, 'older means worse'

Whatever you say, think you ought to check peoples profiles before making sweeping statements. You have rather "Failed" I'm afraid. wink

...and after checking your profile, you don't have anything as interesting as this lady in question has got, in my opinion... still lovely fantasy garage though biggrin

PH ... apprantely you must have a penis to appreciate old cars. If thats true, why have you a modern bore box and I, 4 lovely little pieces of motoring history?

Come on pixie, you're clearly one of few exceptions to the rule. In my experience, most women i know aren't interested in cars, and as thus, this majority conforms to the belief that newer is better. I find it funny and banghead at times but theres no telling them! It seems to be about the number plate age than the qualities of a particular car.

Make sure shes had a good run in a 320d before she invests.

My wife bought a 320d M Sport new, hated it after about a week, and only kept it 7 months before chopping it in for a 3.0Si z4 Coupe.

What an absolutely excellent comeback - I am in awe!

Saying that, your suggestions pretty much miss the fuel economy requirement. 330/335D coupe might be the way. If we went down to one daily driver between us (not sure our marriage could withstand that sort of pressure), that would probably be what we'd go for.

At the moment, I'd struggle to find a daily that I'd swap for my commute (Fabia vRS LE). Tons of torque, easy 60mpg, full leather, retrofitted with heated seats and (rally) heated screen. Fails the 'Chav' test though, and I'd choose a longer wheelbase for a motorway hack.
