Looking for a new car.

Ive been driving a year and the mg i have which is still good is getting a bit old and will start to cost money in the coming year. Been looking around and to say cant find much i want iffin an arrin over different cars.
Ive looked at zr, focus, puma the usual but not found any that i would go for, i dont like small cars or french cars.
Ive just seen a bmw 318 compact for sale which is close to me and a good price just sent of a insurance quote which im waiting for it to come back. Just want to know what are people who have driven or owned them like to live with and drive every day.
Also if you lot got any other ideas on similar cars or different then tell me about them. At the moment hard to pick a new car.
Budget by the way is 4k for car and insurance hopefully not spend all of it but that the limit.
