Weird registration years.

Didn't really know what to title this thread, but anyway.

I was sat eating my fish and chips not twenty minutes ago in Scarborough when a car parked opposite me. At first I couldn't work out what was strange about it (as in, my brain was telling me there's something odd going on - but I couldn't work it out). Anyway the car was a Maestro. The registration? YV05 XXX. It was rusty though.

Surely someone's not still churning these out in a garage somewhere?

It could be an import, where the car gets a plate related to the year in which it was imported.

I do remember somewhere there were a few 'new' ones about around the 2005 era, so being rusty and 6 years old is good going!

Generally not, plate goes by manufacture year.

Last of these were on 51 plates though but I suppose it could have been sat unregistered for a few years.
