So after browsing through the ads on here last night I stumbled across a CL600 AMG which look freaking awesome. How much of a money pit would it be?

This one caught my eye too. Heard a few horror stories about the earlier model year ones, but for the large part people seem pretty positive about them.

In the end I ruled them out because I wanted a manual car next and hate the wood trim.

Potentially huge if it's a last generation and the suspension is fect. 2003 model yr is a crossover point to a more reliable car. What is your planned running cost budget per year?

If it is a 600 it is not an AMG. AMG cars use 2 digit numbers and drop the training zero. It would be a 65 if it was a true AMG V12

I can't see the ad but there's no such thing as a CL600 AMG. It's probably a CL600 with a AMG body kit and wheels.

Ah so that explains why it says AMG spec rather than AMG. Still freaking awesome though.

Miles are okay for the cars age.

Inspect the service history closely, if your seriously interested have the car checked by a specialist who is local to the seller, this will incur a cost of course but with this sort of car (or an AMG) it is probably the best thing to do as it is after all a 8 year old car.

There's no reason why it should be a money pit as long as it has been serviced regularly and has not been abused by former keepers.

It's a very powerful car, not too much can keep up with it..certainly at that price level.

Alternatively, pick up an X350 model XJR for half that price.

It will also be younger, cheaper to run and won't rust.

Probably not much slower in real terms either.

Oh, and plus, it's a Jaaaaaaaaaag

Don't listen to them, chap. It's only 2 x 2.3L engines bolted together & small engines never give any trouble. Beyond bulletproof, in fact.

CL600 AMG would be the S65 AMG. Don't know if you guys have it there or not.

I think the US got most of the same cars we had.

The CL is the coupe, the S65 is the AMG sedan of the W220 series S600.

Of the CL215 series (that car in the advert) and the W220 series S-Class, the top models were

Coupe

CL500 - normally aspirated V8
CL600 - normally aspirated V12 and twin turbo V12 versions
CL55 - supercharged and normally aspirated versions
CL63 - very limited run but normally aspirated and sort of pointless in light of the CL55 supercharged that was released
CL65 - twin turbo V12

Sedans

S500 - normally aspirated V8
S600 - normally aspirated V12 and twin turbo V12 versions
S55 - supercharged and normally aspirated versions
S65 - twin turbo V12

No such thing as an "AMG spec CL600" as someone noted above, at least here in the UK.

According to wiki they get 19mpg however a mate of mine, who used to work at merc, reckons its more like 10mpg. So ruinous in the the running costs department. Still if I bought it, kept it for year I could probably sell it for pretty much what I paid for it. Hmmm....

Advert is somewhat misleading and the fact that it resides in the AMG section. Its just a cl600 with a amg bodykit.
