I know, I know, its about as un PH as it is possible to be, but give me a moment, I really dont want to join a caravan forum.

Being a motor trader I occasionally get offered all sorts of weird and wonderful investment opportunities.

I ended buying really nice RIB (boat) a couple of years ago on a whim, and it turned out brilliant. Being honest I didn't know the first thing when I committed to it, but it seemed cheap so I went for it. Over the course of the summer, we had a few great days out on it, I learned loads about boats, especially RIB's, and still made a small profit when I sold it.

Perhaps my previous good experience of trying out the unknown has given me rose tinted Glasses with regard to my latest purchase.

The one I've bought is very similar to this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Swift-Mondial-Hightop-1996-F...

I dont pick it up until next week, so I dont have my own pictures yet.

Its two berth with seat-belted seats for three. I'm thinking me, the wife, and our one year son (who is 1 Today by the way) could have few days out in it. I had in mind going to somewhere like Devon/Cornwall where there are plenty of sites to stop to use the facilities, and each stop would only be a short drive from the next. If it works well maybe we could have another trip further afield into europe, then sell it later in the year, or should I just get rid now?

Me and the wife did spend some time in a rented camper van travelling up the east coast of Australia 5 years ago on our honeymoon, so we are not totally unfamilar, but this be the first time with a baby.

Its not a young vehicle, so obviously I would get it thoroughly checked out and prepped if I use it or not, although I must say it seems to be amazingly well kept so far, with the same owner since 2001.

If I use it, I think I'll need to get a small box trailer to take some bigger items, and get some belt and braces breakdown cover.

So should I or shouldn't I?

Has anyone done something similar with young kid/s?

Any top tips, or advise?

I've heard most of the UK sites are not great, should skip the uk, and go straight abroad? If so where?

We spend lots of weekends at the Pod in a 6L Dodge Mini Winnie (1980). Sometimes we take two kids with us too....

Every morning I wake up and check the kids haven't succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning/hypothermia eek I also worry about it exploding/catching fire in the night yikes but thats just me laugh

More comfortable than a tent though. But fuel bills unbelievable spin

Ok,

First step join the Caravan Club, they have excellent sites of all types dotted all around the country....some don't have shower blocks though, so I would discount those. The sites are spotless, well run and usually cost around £18 per night.

Second step, fit Pistonheads sticker on the back.

Third step, get out there, the world is your oyster.......thumbup

Hahaha! Brilliant show !

"And the first rule of caravan club is ...everyone get's some ! "

"it's a sense of freedom that you don't get with other holiday's" - classic but will's response was brilliant !

I have the seen the Inbetweeners, and it was great. Although I must admit I didn't think of it while buying the 'van.
