How do you supercar drivers justify your budget?
Discussion
Looking at cars now & sighted a 2006 997 TT & 2008 R8 V8 as possible contenders if I stretch myself.
Either would forfil a dream for me but i'm not sure I can stomach spending the sort of cash required.
I earn what i'd class above average wage but cant stop wondering if the people I see in these cars are all millionaires or just average guy like me.
So convince me I can afford it....or not!!

Ok so either of those cars can be purchased for under £60k......which is around my yearly income - gross. Ive got about 25k to stick down.
Dont have many outgoings, relativly small mortgage on a nice detached house. No family, no wag, no kids, dont really go on holiday except the odd weekend away with the boys. Dont have many outgoings but can easilly spend my wage....without trying!!

If you have to ask you can't afford it, no?
Silly response, Hate it when people say that ..... if you are in anyway "Business" minded you will always enquire or endeavor to receive a response upon the topic/purchase in question before you go ahead with it.Many people save and save to get the car of their dreams, some may have gone through a recent divorce so have cash floating around, inheritance or generally successful in their chosen line of work etc.

Possibly, I dont know.......i'm just wondering how others do? Surely there not all millionaires?
Given a healthy income like yours I'd think it's perfectly possible to buy, own and run a 997 Turbo or R8, I know plenty of people in your ballpark income who do.
Following on from the F-I-N-A-N-C-E comment above the people who work for our company in the UK do it with their car allowance and a contribution from themselves.

I know, you took it the way it was intended. Many people save and save to get the car of their dreams, some may have gone through a recent divorce so have cash floating around, inheritance or generally successful in their chosen line of work etc.
Just thought I would get it out of the way as someone was bound to say it.

I used to know someone who lived in a (modest) house next door to a Ferarri owner. The answer is not only F-I-N-A-N-C-E , but to treat taking out debt like a game of Buckaroo.
The donkey kick is a 'FOR SALE BY AUCTION' sign being erected in your flowerbed.
Usually, when I buy a car I buy smart, something a few years old, desirable, keep it a yer then sell. Add a few grand on top & start over with the next one.
Servicing & maintenance -
I cover around 6k miles a year, domestic & pleasure miles.....do not commute at all.
Used to figures of <20mpg.
Tyres always seem to cost £200+ & a grand for a service has been paid previously.
I'm a bit hung up on mega road tax (£400+), but theres no way round so would pay it!!
Of course, getting financed out your nut is all too easy in this day & age. Its the only option available to me really, its not abad thing is it so long as you know your depth? I'd probably try to go 50/50 on a purchase.
How do others pay for their expensive cars???
I'm a firm believer of Carpe Diem - "seize the day". Ive got a good company pension & shares plan......might as well spend the rest as I see fit???

Clearly you need a good £45k + to even get a new one of these even on Finance with a sizable deposit.
People choose to spend money on different things, some lots of amazing holidays others big houses, others latest kit always, others investments, others on the family.
Id say if your wanting a 997 Turbo brand new you are going to lose c£35k over 2 years in depreciation so £15k a year net income just to pay for that, then the financing on the entire list price, then running costs, so maybe £25k a year net income to run one.

My current car is one of the cars that I have always wanted to own. I can afford to run it but it does suck up a lot of my free cash. As such I have missed out on holidays, trips to the ring and Le Mans plus a few things around the house. After nearly 3 years I have decided enough is enough and I am going to sell it as I miss the other things that make life fun.
I'm nowhere near a supercar owner but having two nice cars (VXT [PH] and 120d [not PH]) has taken a good wedge out of my salary. I can only afford it as I've not got kids (I'm in my early 20s) and my missus is a self-sustainer (i.e. keeper). I've recently bought a house and as such I'm selling both my cars in order to get something sensible, like a CSL or a VXR8.

So you reckon you regret it, or you glad you done it & now happy to move on!!Got to say i'll probably miss having as much disposable income if i'm paying hefty finance!!
