Sprogs and insurance cost

I am officially old. Today. I have reached the benchmark of 40.

And I've always (somehow) been able to get cheap insurance even since I was 17 (best example - £300 in 1998 on a Porsche 924S).

I currently have a Panda 100HP which costs me £225 per annum (I thought that was a bit expensive bearing in mind that my previous Mk3 MX-5 was £280). At the time I told them I was about to have my first child, and they said that when sprog arrives it will increase my insurance by £60 (!).

Is this common? I can understand the increased risk in terms of turning your head to check the little darling is OK, but again parenthood is (theoretically) likely to make you a more careful driver... Also sprog is likely to spend about 5% of its total 'car time' in mine, and 95% in its mothers (horrible grotty C3).

(BTW - Porsche insurance went up when I moved from a dodgy inner city to a rural village with basically no car crime due to 'increased risk')
