Side repeaters

Can someone help me with a question here, is it legal and pass the MOT to have side repeaters on the wings and also on your wing mirrors at the same time or must you choose one or the other?

I'd imagine it'd be one or the other, since almost all older cars only have wing mounted ones.

What's the car you're talking about? And its year of manufacture?

The car is an 06 Civic FD2, it has the wing mounted side repeaters, but someone I know wants to also add the later mirrors from the 09 car which also have the side repeater in, but doesn't want to deal with the hole that would be left in the wind by removing the light.

If the car model itself has at some point had mirror mounted repeaters, I guess you've answered your own question

IIRC, as long as the MOT tester can observe and flashing amber light from the side when the indicators are on, that's a pass.

There was a car in the 70s / 80s that had both front and rear side indicators. Fiat 128?

Can't see that it will be a problem.

Many older cars have no side repeaters - anyone know when they became mandatory?

Surely if he's going to the trouble to mount new wing mirrors with side repeaters, and connect them in, then he could also disconnect the wing mounted repeaters if he wants to ?

But to remove the side repeaters means filling the hole where they once were. So it was more on the legality of are you allowed side repeaters on you wings as well as your wing mirrors?

I believe the rules for the MOT are that cars after 1986 have to have a method to display a indicator on the side of the vehicle. It does not state the indicator has to be in the wing.

On my car i have side repeaters mounted in the bumper and in 17 years of MOTs these have never had an issue.

Also remember that if the car has the lights fitted they must work in order to pass the test.
