Trip to England

Hi all,
Just got back from an enjoyable week's break in England (was looking forward to a bit of rain and grey sky but was welcomed by 25 heat degree blue sky), I hired a car(vw polo 1.4)(Note to self get a upgrade next time) in Gatwick and drove to a friends in Cambridge, the trip up the M25 was pretty eventless apart from the Dartford tunnel, surprised to see that even the brits push in and jump queues
from there it was up the dreary motorway doing 75/80mph (the speed limit needs to go up to at least 90), driving discipline is very good from what I saw very courteous and no issues whatsoever.
Did the usual shopping part and looked at a few car showrooms while the wife boosted your economy, your car prices are incredible, cheap as chips is an understatement. Halfords was my next stop bought a few things that I couldn't find here or were a quarter of the price.
A few days later we went up to the lake district mostly on motorways, apart from the satnav beeping for speed cameras and telling me a roundabout was coming up when one was nowhere to be seen (updated by Garmin my ass)it was a pretty boring 3 hr drive. Got to the beautiful area of todmorton where we were staying and did a bit of walking driving and ale drinking(not when driving of course) saying that, in the whole week I saw one cop car and that was on the motorway.(Nice patrol cars by the way)
Came back down a different way mainly using A roads and a few B roads, journey took forever but the scenery was epic, you got a beautiful country when it's sunny

In general had a really relaxing time, weather was great, shopping was amazing (extra suitcase as evidence) and general feeling your getting out of the doom and gloom portrayed by SKYNEWS.
So in general my observations especially after reading a lot in this forum is as follows.
Your roads are good, lucky if I saw 2 potholes in the whole 1400 miles I covered.
Your driving is generally very good.
People are friendly. (Didn't go to any inner city so maybe I was lucky)
Girls have generally big knockers (sorry had to include that)
Car prices are epic
Your ALE is the best
Pub meals yummy (wife has been practising the pies)
You got a beautiful country with loads to offer, many a country would be lucky to have what you have.
I will be back, in a better car next time however.

Malta, and it isn't worse. It has it's bad points but in general it's a nice place to live
Put things into prospective, it's good everywhere if you make the most of it.

Being an ex colony here in Malta, we do have a leaning on most thing British, TV for one. You could spend years watching trash TV like Big Brother, x factor, britains hardest towns, britains hardest men etc etc, but should never take them as being the representation of a country or its people, most countries have this sort of population thank god they only represent a minority of a population, Just like the Sun isn't to be taken too seriously or formed an opinion off.Fact is i've been to the UK a gazillion times, been from Southampton to Newcastle, london to swansea, i've never had and issues with anyone, always had a great time and find the UK a very pleasant place to visit, also find the Brits in general who come to Malta nice people and have made loads of friends who i meet quite often.

I used to go a lot to Malta for work. A huge percentage of the Maltese have either been to the UK (often very regularly) and/or have relatives here. Most seem to know the UK's good and bad point as well as any UK resident.
Looking at it from the other direction driving in Malta always used to be somewhat interesting with old cars, poor condition roads and a certain relaxed approach to rules of the road! It seems to have changed these days with much better cars, many re-built roads and better driving (not that you can go very far).
I always liked the place - whether because or despite of our shared history the Maltese are generally a friendly and relaxed lot and seem to like the British.
