problem with car cd player, help...

I have a clairon cz109e cd/mp3 player in my car, i done a straight swap with the original cd player and used the original leads etc, for some reason ever since i put the cd player in it doesnt always turn on, sometimes i have to turn the engine on and off in order to get the cd player to turn on, also it doesnt save the radio stations or play from the last track, could i be using the wrong cables? i have a S reg peuget 305

Sounds like it needs a constant live or there is a problem with your constant live.

If it's a reasonably modern unit, there might be an option to swap two leads over, usually red and yellow. These are the permanent and switched 12V supplies.
