Wedding car hire?

Does the driver of a wedding car need to have a private hire licence, gained after sitting the knowledge test of the local area?

I ask because I'm quite interested in this if I ever get round to buying something that could be used for wedding work and I know of a couple of people who use their weekend cars to do wedding work on occasion who I am sure don't have a private hire licence.

I don't think so, but only because wedding cars are not plated IME.

A travel firm near me has an Espace & Galaxy which it uses for an Airport drop off service and both those are taxi-plated so I'm guessing the drivers are qualified as well.

As I understand it. You will need to apply to your local council for a private hire licence (which these days would also include a CRB check), Only London Hackney carriage Cabbies need to do the knowledge.Your insurance would also need to be "hire and reward".(very expensive unless you find a specialist taxi insurer).
Just go to any other major city, and the driver if he/she speaks English at all, will not know the name of the next street from where they are parked!!
