Jaguar XF vs Mercedes CLS

In a couple of months I'll be looking to replace my trusty MG ZT CDTi.

I've narrowed my choice down to the Jaguar XF and the Mercedes CLS. Problem is I can't decide which one to go for. Budget would be around £15k (plus whatever I get for my car, probably £2.5k-£3k).

So which one would you go for and why?

XF for me.

The Jag XF is a fine car but i LOVE the looks of the Merc CLS. That's where my money would be.

I expect you would be happy with either of these though.

CLS for me. I adore the interior design in particular.

I am on the same position. Also considering an A5. Love the look of the CLS but just can't decide. The jag gets greAt reviews and looks good too. Ive even narrowed it down to "must be black" but still on the fence.

What is the spec and mileage of a XF that you could get for £15K?

Of those two it would be the XF every time for me. The Merc looks melted; I much prefer the stronger, sharper lines of the XF (plus, it's British!).

CLS for me. Must be a fairly high miler XF for £15K I would have thought?

XF, but i don't think you'll get a good one for your budget.

For 15k? pretty high and pretty low. The OP did say 15k + 2.5/3k PX though.

The XF is the better car but for your budget you'll have a much better choice with the CLS with reasonable mileage whereas the XF will be a 2.7 and pretty leggy.

I considered both but annoyingly the CLS only has four seats, for me this meant it just wasn't practical enough as a sports saloon, but not as much fun as the comparable four seat sports coupes I looked at. The XF seemed an excellent compromise, without feeling like a compromise choice.

Was the CLS released after or before Mercedes sorted out their rustproofing problems?

XF for me, I'm biased though I run one. Try both and see what you think.
