Car Tax = Thieving B*******DS

Just had my car tax renewel drop through the letter box....and its now up to 245 for 12months..!! I swear it was £210 6months ago?

Have the government decided to increase the prices? Or have they reclassified the gradings again?

Stuck with a slow, under powered astra thats in a high tax bracket. Doesn't seem worth it...

I think this applied to cars registered after March 2006. A friend of mine bought a 2005 car for this very reason.

Don't worry, you'll be working until you're 66 to pay for it.

The cost of your current VED should be shown on the disc itself.

First year rate for cars over 255g/km is now £1000, and £460/year after that.

I feel your pain.

I had an RX300, not especially bad on fuel or anything, but emissions werent great! And expensive to tax. Chopped it and the wife's Mini Cooper S (again, not great on emissions) for a BMW diesel. £115 for the year but has 204BHP!

I know its satans fuel, but I dont see it ever being cheaper. So time to swallow my pride and be sensible. Ok, gone from 2 cars to 1, but quartered my car tax liability.... madness.

In the grand scheme of things a £35 increase, (about half-a-tank of fuel in current prices), over 12 months is not worth getting worked up about.

FWIW, my DC5 is £210 p.a.

Its the principle....government upping it £30 in a year...when the local roads near where I live are a mess. Potholes everywhere, and 1 dual carriage way has had the top layer stripped off and chippings put down. Been like it for 3 weeks with a 20mph speed limit.

My personal complaint is the pure unfairness of the system.

If you produce 101 co2s at your exhaust pipe you pay £20 per year

If you produce 202 co2s you pay £250 per year, over 12 times as much for producing double.

If you produce 303 co2s you pay £450 per year, over 22 times as much for producing triple.

I really struggle to understand such a ridiculous scale.

But none of the revenue has been spent on roads for years (AFAIAA) - that's why it was renamed VED..

How do you struggle with that........ Nothing fair about it - it's designed to get you out of your gas guzzler and into a smaller less poluting vehicle.....

So im not in a gas guzzler...standard 1.8 does about 34mpg. Just vauxhall made it with sh*t emmissions lol

What grates about graduated VED is that there is already a mechanism by which everyone pays tax in direct proportion to the amount of carbon dioxide they actually emit, rather than the amount they theoretically could emit. It's called fuel duty.

Fuel costs hugely outweigh the VED costs.
