Italian Toll Road

We are visitng France, Switzerland and Italy in a few weeks time and I'm keen to sort out automatic tags for the toll roads to avoid queuing and payment hassle.

Looking at the Le Mans forum the reports of Sanef UK service for France seem good so I'll probaly go with them for France, we're ok with regard to the Vignette for Switzerland but I wonderd if anyone had any advice on getting a tag for Italy? I've seen mention of an outfit called "Toll Tickets" who say thet can supply an Italian Telepass, anyone had any experience with those guys?

Grateful for any thoughts.

If my memory serves correctly the telepass system transponder is linked to your bank account and debits the money as necessary. However I think you need an Italian account for it to work.

I've not driven on Itialian toll roads, are they mailnly fixed fee with change into a basket (like dratford Crossing/mersry tunnel etc)or more like the French system where you collect a ticket (having queued) then pay an amount at the exit point (having queued again)?

They're a combination of the two depending on what A/S you're on and where you are.

Do bear in mind that on the more rural exits the cabins aren't manned so you'll have to pay with a CC.

I go to Italy every year and don't bother with a Telepass even though I have residency & an Italian registered car over there - it's something else to keep an eye on and it's not that much of a hassle to pay cash. The busier tolls have lots of cabins/machines and you're unlikely to be held up for more than a couple of minutes in a queue to pay.

Have just recently come back from a euro road trip- Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland etc. About 3800 miles total, took toll roads when they were available. Can't say I ever queued for more than 30seconds at any toll booth, pop your ticket in, followed by your credit card, take the card back (quite important this one!) Job done.

The toll road are great, got in 1 traffic jam not including city centres in the whole trip- and that was in Switzerland.
