Thinking of selling up after only a month of BMW ownership!

Just over a month ago I bought myself a 51-plate E46 3 series convertible. The basic idea was that my GT-Four was getting too uncomfortable to drive long distance (bad back coupled with a new suspension setup, not particularly well suited to British roads filled with potholes unfortunately.) It was also a bit too keen to drink the go-juice.

So, the plan was, buy the E46 and relegate the GT-Four to weekend toy/track car.

The E46 has been well behaved after a couple of teething problems involving alternator issues and a diagnostic light appearing for no apparent reason, so no complaints there. I've been using it as a daily driver for the last few weeks and it's a pleasant enough drive - it's nice to stick the roof down in the pleasant weather we've been having, and it's certainly more comfortable.

However, this last weekend I decided to drive the GT-Four around instead.

I'd completely forgotten how much more fun it is to drive that around than the BMW. So much so that I actually kind of miss it, and am thinking about selling on the BMW now!

And once you sell the Beemer and drive round in the GT-4 for a few weks you will then deceide its too uncomfortable for everyday use and so it all begins again.

Just drive the GT-4 when you feel like it and use the Beemer for the rest of the time.

It will also save putting miles on the GT-4.

Is the E46 the comfortable ecomonical cruiser you need it to be?

Simply put "It's nice to have a change"

I ran a hardcore V tec and a 328 alongside each other.

When I was tired or had a long dull M way trip I took the BMW.

When I wanted a cross country thrash I took the V tec.

It's all down to personal preference I guess. I owned a very nice example of a Celica Carlos Sainz (not badged a GT4, but effectively a GT4 with a few extra bits on it for homologation) almost back to back with a BMW E36 325i, and have since owned an E36 328i, E46 330ci and Z4 Coupé. Other than the E46 330ci, which was awful, I prefer all the BMWs to the Sainz, and I was very fond of the Sainz indeed. My own personal preference is for rear wheel drive and normally aspirated engines; and that's just a personal thing. Drive what you prefer
