You like a classic, fine why is the price an issue? I love Mk1 Cortina's. I would not buy one just because it costs X amount. I would buy the car I want not because it costs Xk

Also, if you're willing to spend £30-40k on a classic, is the £200 or so road tax really an issue?

Anyway. You could get a very nice 60s Mustang for half that budget. Use the rest to make it go and handle better

Gents, thanks for the replies thus far. To answer your questions. Re road tax, I'm being lazy, I have four cars already so its just one more to tax if I go post 73 and plus 200 quid is 200quid whichever way you look at it.
Re price bracket. That is my budget on this occasion and therefore opens up certain vehicles and discounts others beyond this. I have an honest 3k Midget which is great but have a higher budget to spend on something a bit more special. It would be a weekend only car but that is not to say a 10 or 20k car couldnt fit the bill, so i'lI rephrase that to, up to 40k.

In being vague earlier I think it has already helped as I'm definitely getting an urge for something British, open top & big engined. I think I'm more interested in the sense of occassion ie. styling, noise, cockpit than out and out performance or comfort.

Anyway, keep em coming and thankyou again ......

PS. Not adverse to replicas but I'm not being drawn towards another uber-beetle or the Mercs even though they are all lovely looking things.
