Repaired tyres - how much do you trust them?
Discussion
Puncture yesterday on the E30. Repaired at the local tyre place - they seem to have done a good job.
Car is used on a day to day basis, motorway grind for work.
I'm assuming the repair should be 'as good' as it was before. Can't help feeling a nag in the back of my mind that suggests I have the repaired tyre as a spare and buy another new one to have as the daily. If the car was just a town runabout, the consequences of a repair fail wouldn't be so severe. At motorway speed, it might be a bit more messy!
Do you trust repairs for keen motorway use?
(Current spare is just about legal and I wouldn't want to use it any more than for a emergency 'limp' home).

I think you have to take into account the nature of the damage sustained in the first place. With a simple hole through the tread of a rear tyre that led to a slow puncture I was perfectly happy with a repair. The tyre lasted well, exhibited no adverse behaviour and coped with spirited driving, high speed runs and full bore emergency starts. On a Dodge Viper. If your tyre has been repaired correctly there should be no reason for concern. Horrible damage isn't repaired by professionals and therein lies your safety net

A proper pull through repair plug, correctly done, is as safe as the original tyre.
Exactly thatProblem is, when looking for a tyre to have as spare, most appear to be directional which isn't so helpful!

Interesting reading this as puncture repaired tyres on a car which gets driven hard really scare me, infact i would bin them, On a normal daily though i wouldnt care and infact i dont care if its a puncture repaired ying yang as long as its legal.
So maybe i'll changhe my viewpoint, i suppose if it were dangerous then health and safety would be having none of it.
