Vehicle recovery/transport

I'm currently looking into getting my car recovered to a garage 16 miles away. The car can't be driven far so recovery is the only option. The RAC will only offer to take me 10 miles so that's not use.

I've had a few quotes but they all seem to be around £100, is this the going rate? It seems like a lot to only go 16 miles?

I'm based in the Coventry if anyone knows of a cheap/reliable company?

Sadly about £100 seems reasonable to me, my mate had his car recovered (after a bump) by a local recovery firm to a garage about a mile from the crash and then billed him for £350 saying it was this much due to the fact that it was late on a Saturday night!

It's quite expensive so I'm not surprised.

I wanted to take the Audi I had 150 miles to a trusted repairer and I was getting quotes for £1600!!

I must be in the wrong job! The RAC quote was £115 so that might be the best option then.

The RAC quote will more than likely be because you only have the basic roadside cover so will need to upgrade to include recovery. The actual upgrade will be about £50 and the rest will be a surcharge for upgrading in a breakdown situation. The upside is once you've upgraded you will still have the recovery part for the remainder of your policy up till renewel etc.

Going rate is about £1.20 a mile for a decent trip - one way.

So collecting a car 100 miles away is £120ish

Minimum £30 really.

Different story if its an emergency and needs doing immediately.

Call your local back street garage and see who they use.

I'm having 2 non running cars (2 trips) moved 5 miles I'm expecting a bill of £40-50
