Which Supermini?

Here on PH we tend to look at the more 'premium' end of the scale, so thought it would be good to check out 'cool, hip and funky' side of things too. Let's set a realistic budget of £14,000. The only rules are it has to be brand new and small. This isn't a what car thread, just curious as to what people think of the current market and possibly explore some of the less-popular choices... Anyone for a Dacia Sandero?

I'll get the ball rolling...

I'd opt for the Renault Sport Twingo 133. Less than £13k for a 'full fat' model, nippy 1.6 16v engine, loads of space, practical seating arrangements and quite a funky looking car.

What would you choose to potter around town in, and why?

The thing is, if it's being realistic, then £14k is still a lot to spend on a car for many. Not too mention it being a brand new car too.

Used MINI CS/JCW would make so much more sense than a new Twingo tbh.

That completely defeats the objective of this thread though... All of these used cars were new one day with a ridiculous price tag.

Skoda Fabia VRS thingy with the 180bhp and the DSG for me. £14198 from Broadspeed.com but if you're paying the £14k, I'll happily chip in the 198 quid.

Or a more sensible car would be Alfa Romeo Mito.

Suzuki Swift Sport has got to be right up there, I prefer them over the Twingo Sports

300 - Its just against your nature to even think about suggesting a brand new car isn't it? Even as a hypothetical question on the internet.

If the budget were >18k, I would also say A1 (I have one, and it's great) but at 14k I would definitely agree - an absolutely fully loaded ZetecS. Great to drive and very good looking little car.

Full colour screen and MMI, no other supermini has that standard. Going on list £14k wouldn't go very far with a Fiesta

You can get a zetec s for 12k on broad speed already top of the range could stick options on if you want and get something fully loaded for 14k and having driven one it really is a lovely car would take one over a base audi a1 any day faster, bigger, better to drive and more kit at this level and to be honest the build quality on new fords is pretty good anyway
Looked at A1 and the standard specification is a lot better than I thought it would be but personally I could not live with a stty 85bhp not for 14k...
The 1.4 sport would make more sense with a couple of options at around 16,500 but out of budget for this thread

Is the A1 a supermini? They look almost as big as a Mk1 Focus to me.

smart ForTwo. Not the most sporty, but a sensible car if you only need 2 seats. I quite like the Toyota iQ too, just a shame it's so slow.

Fiat 500 is fun to be in, horrid light steering though.
